I found what I thought was an interesting piece of information in a report by CB Richard Ellis. I quote:
"There were 49,511 expatriates in Bangkok as of April 2004, an increase of 12% from the level recorded in April 2003. The largest expatriate nationality (23% of the total) is Japanese due to the large number of Japanese companies that currently operate in Thailand. Following these are expatriates from India, Great Britain, China and America."

Are these expats the one's holding jobs, or does it count spouses. I wonder how many floating expats on travel terms there are relative to the situated expats.

CB Ellis are good at coming out with statistics that support their feel good announcements on the market.
Does the figure include all foreigners, spouses etc. here on an estimated basis including those who have a small visa issue?
50,000 feels about right if you included long term tourists.

I think it is kinda hard to get any real good data on that topic - 50,000 seems to be not a high enough number to me. I did read in a statisitc from the national Thai Statistical Office ( http://www.nso.go.th ) some time ago putting the number of Japanese expats aloneto 21,000 (the working force) - but well, statistics can be wrong too I guess...

in my day with a japanese comany they used to say that they got 40 engineers in the factory in LOS for the cost of one japanese engeneer expat.
I was also told that about 20 000 japanese work in LOS.
