Hello everyone
i need your help on the following:
i have a visa that ends on December 8th-it lasts for 3 months, and it was a multi entry visa. I dont really have an excuse to extend it beyond that date, I only want to stay for some days for making a few trips and just keep one having fun. That is, until December 20th, 12 days later. So is there a way to stay in the country for longer while my visa expired? I guess one way would be to go abroad just a couple of days before visa expires, and then come back in like a tourist. Is this working? Any other suggestions? What if I play it dumb, and just go and take my plane on December 20th?Is there a fee or you're going to jail for fooling the authorities (ok extreme scenario, but just wanted to cover the whole range).
Please advice me what can/should/would I do. Thank you in advance!!

This would work fine.

If you are overstayed for 12 days, your fine will be 2400 baht, easily payable in cash on departure. Some notes on just paying for your overstay at the airport when you leave are here:

http://www.thaivisa.com/303.0.html - keep in mind they describe a very worst case scenario.

You can also search that board for more information concerning your question.

The process of paying for the overstay is very easy, and is accurately described at the above link. Only you can decide if overstaying, then paying the fine on departure is the best course of action for you.

Where are you from and what sort of visa is it?

I would suggest you go to Immigration and see about getting an extension. You don't really need an excuse to request extensions. This is your first option and is much safer than over staying.

If you get rolled up in some sort of police action and you are in an over stay position, you will be placed in jail and deported.

You might never get caught but if you do it can become very unpleasant.

If no extension is possible, I suggest you take a day off and sign up for a day trip to Cambodia. You then enter on a 30 day tourist visa and are good to go. The trip will cost roughly the same as the fine for 12 days and you remain legal.

Good advice from EPC. With the frequent bar raids, if you are overstayed on your visa, you could quite easily be put in the local jail, where they tend to forget about you for a few weeks, then deport you as persona non grata....never to return to LOS. Hardly worth a couple thousand baht to ensure you remain within the law.

seconded to ec. just not worth the risk to overstay.

on the 2 month tourist visum (that you get at the thai consulate in you home country), you get one month more at immigration.

on the 30 days visum ( that you get at the airport) you get 10 days more at immigration.

i hope this helps.

on a three month tourist visa, you should be able to extend 1 month at immigration suan phlu.

but it depends on your type of visa.

otherwise as bux said, the extension would only be good for 10 days. cost baht 1900.00 this would still leave you 2 days short.

if you want a clean passport do a quick visa run to cambo.

it costs baht 2000.00, leaves at asoke bus station at 6 am and haves you pack there at approx 3 pm. call them for details 016217598.

up to you.

I have 'overstay' every month (last month 14 days). I've never had any trouble though. But I won't say it won't happen to you.

Now let's get some things right:

The 30 day visa is not called a 'tourist visa' it's called a Visa-On-Arrival.

The visa you apply for abroad is called a tourist visa but is not valid for 90 days, but for 60 days with an extension (1,900) for 1 month.

Take a trip to Poi Pet (one day by train/bus), take a TG with you. Train fare return THB 96 baht per person. THB 1,000 visa fee at the border.

Also for those who visit Poi Pet regularly. The '100 baht' entry fee is not solicited anymore. Make sure you don't look the officer in the eye so he can see your 'newbie' look.

BTW If you didn't take the second entry out of the multi, the officer will give you another 90 days automatically.

if you go with the service I mentionned, the only thing you have to do yourself is eating lunch at the casino.
