Hi all,
From various messages posted on this forum, one thing that appears quite obvious is that most of brothers tend to stay around the Sukhumvit area. Also, most of the popular places reported are places like Eden Club, Baron's, Annie's etc. Again, most of the preferred hotels are the Manhattan, Landmark, Nana, Majestic etc. Therefore, we notice that the list of preferred hotels and preferred places to visit is not very long.
It might be a good idea if the distances from a otel to the most popular places are posted on the forum. For example, if I were to stay at the Manhattan, how far, in kilometers or miles, is Eden Club from ther? or, Baron's? There could be a number of Athletic brothers who might want to travel by foot, if the distances are not too much.

I have never timed myself when walking along Sukhumvit road but I would say that you can walk from Nana EP to Asoke near soi cowboy in about 15 minutes. Barons would be about another 10 minutes. Is this enough information?

Sorry... I forgot to add in my last post that you can see and judge the relative distances from the Sukhumvit map on Bangkok2night. Barons is soi 24 just further down Sukhummvit road. So if you are staying in a central hotel like Ambassodor or Manhattan you can easily walk to any of the places that you mention.

Assuming you are starting from Ambassodor hotel...
Baron.. 10/15 minutes
Eden.. 5 minutes
Beer garden.. 5 minutes
Galaxy. Need taxi or in rush hour perhaps better to take sky train. I don't know exact location of Galaxy but nearest skytrain station is probably Sala Daeng and take taxi from there. last month I spent 1.5 hours to do that journey by taxi. it would have been 20 minutes on sky train including train change at Siam station

Bear in mind that the average farang, fresh from farang land, is going to be a soaking steamy mess after the walk from NEP to Soi Cowboy, especially in the daytime April heat. Sometimes it's worth the $1 for a cozy cool cab, even if the trip actually takes longer. Of course if you stop off and have a beer and cool off every 100 meters or so it's not so bad, but then it probably takes more than 15 minutes.

I spent a week hanging around Sukhomvit in March, and only caught a cab when I was going on tourist trips or to Patpong for the night - mind you, I like to walk a lot on holidays, keeps my weight down while otherwise overindulging, and yeah, I sweat a fair bit, but it's great to stop into the odd bar here and there and have some sweet thing come over with a cold cloth, isn't it?
Seriously, no matter how hot or humid, I'll walk up to a half an hour before I really need to stop somewhere and rest - I just treat every block as a new adventure if I haven't been there before.
Miss that heat - May 3 and it's still -10C at night here, what a pissoff. Late spring!

I found the sky train very convenient . Even for short hops like from NEP to Baron's, I traveled by the skytrain a couple of times when I was not in the mood to walk. But from NEP to Soi Cowboy is a nice and interesting walk specially with a beer halt and a game of pool on the way

Last month I was with a guy and he wanted to avoid the short stroll to the skytrain ( we were on our way to meet two girls) He waa concerned about arriving as a steamy mess, as you say, so he called a cab. Peak time so it was 1.5 hours to Patpong from Sukhumvit. The girls were not happy at our late arrival.
But as you say kris, a slow stroll and a cool beer or two can make the hops interesting.

during the day i would take the skytrain due to the traffic. taxi by night. both only $1 o/w. i like to keep out of the heat. everything is w/in 20 minutes.
