Why are you living in Central BKK if your job is in the Eastern part of city? Go East, young man, go East.

As to your other questions...it all depends on your lifestyle. If you spend 50,000 baht monthly on rent, you got a ploblem.

Post more information on what you want to do and you are likely to get some sensible answers, not shit like my post.

Thats worth (95,000) more in real terms per month buying power, than your Uk income here.

You should be able to move about cheaply, not like Uk. Rent for about 20,000 a month something.
Have decent food and entertainment, with a propotion of the remainder.
I would seek out a girlfriend, to save on P4P and, change places and girlfriends every 3 months.
Bottom line is thats enough money.

If you find the 95k isn't enough, PM Basher and he'll sort you out with some extra work down the docks.

ok guys...a bit more info...this is a senior teaching post in an international school ( kids aged 4-11 ) approximately 10-12 kms ( 20/25 car ride from central BKK ) to the EAST of the city..apparently not near rail or metro lines routes..I was told it is also around 20 mins drive from new airport if that helps to locate it..I have been told taxis will cost about 60 baht each way ?..the job starts in September 2005.
More about location...it is on the PATTAKARN Road and
near the intersection of the SRINAKARIN RD and SOI ONNUJ-SUKHAMVIT77 RD...NOT FAR FROM INTERSECTION OF THE RAMA 1X CHONBURI MOTORWAY INTERSECTION WITH THE SRINKARIN RD.
apparently most of the staff live in the city centre and commute in. What I need to know is 1) is the 95,000 baht monthly a good liveable wage ? 2) I am a little anxious...how will I settle ?..I am a uk resident...been to BKK twice and loved it but worry about the loneliness 3) where should I live ?.what standard of accommodation can I afford and get? 4) I am keen to find some short term gfs...i am 48...quite handsome !..can I get a cute 20's gf in bkk ? 5) if I leave behind a few cc debts in uk will I get tracked to bkk or am I safe ? 6) any other advice appreciated...john ( if you want to e mail me my e mail address is jboakes@sgfl.org.uk )

I would stay in a hotel for 2 or 3 months to see if I liked the job and figure out where I want to live. You should be able to live like a minor King in BKK on your salary.

So, you're looking at around 3,000 Baht per month in taxi fees, more if you include minor tips, and if you assume that the taxi fare information you were given is accurate - which it's not. Taxis are cheap in BKK, but I've never riden for 20-25 minutes and only paid 60 Baht. 60 Baht holds true for pretty much any destination within central bangkok, but if you're looking at a ride of 10-15km/20-25 minutes, I'd guesstimate that you're looking more at around 100-120 Baht each way, so roughly double.

Do the math, on how much of your 95,000 you will spend on commuting, then, not even counting the additional rides you'd make on weekends, etc...

If your regular employment is out there, why not seek a nice place in the vicinty or the neighborhood -- housing is much cheaper outside of central Bangkok, although you can find cheap accommodations in BKK as well (just check with DrLove, the Dr-of-cheap!).

Where do the rest live, those who don't commute in?

To be quite honest, this last question raises a few red flags, as it paints you as the kind of guy that is moving to Bangkok because you're running away from something, not because you're moving towards something -- and while you're certainly in (not necessarily) good company with that, you ought to really consider if that's what you want to do -- if you earn 2,200 pounds in the UK, then you should not have any trouble paying back a few cc debts, otherwise you are just setting yourself up for the same kind of lifestyle and walk-away attitude you might be running away from in the UK.

Regardless if you can be tracked down in LOS, at one point you may wish to return to the UK, and what's going to happen then...?

Lastly, BigDUSA's advice appears the best - find yourself a hotel, or a week-to-week apartment for your initial arrival, and then look around for what's available.

let me get this straight: you are a deadbeat and you dont want to pay your debts that you owe, you want to bang young girls, and you want to teach young children. hmm, ideal candidate for a teacher - I think not. I guess the sun has set on the english empire with standards like this.

A cc company aren't going to trace you to banggers. However your interest will keep mounting up.

I thought senior teaching roles at International schools are the ones that give a real expat salary, with accomodation etc. Sounds like you're running away from something, go on spill the beans, I love a bit of gossip.

Banggolfer it was the British empire not english, for f***s sake, sort it out. Also is it only bad if you bang young girls at the same time you are teaching young children. What about if you split it up, and say banged the young girls after school finished.
