I am looking at doing my O class visa. I am well under 50 and married to a Thai and have a child. Does anyone know what the amount is needed in the bank. MFA website says 800,000 but I think that is for over 50 retirement and the other bit says 30,000. Anyone got the right gen on this please.

When I got mine last year it was 400,000 baht in Thai bank transferred from outside of Thailand.

You can not retired under 65 or something. Some will alow it in your own country. I got one 3 month times 4 but only once. But if your married then a statment from the monthly pension income will do no need to have more then a few 1000 in the Thai Bank and you get a Maried Visa. I am retired and under 30 but I have a thai wife so they said no problem.

If you are 50 or over, 800KTHB is the qualification for a retirement EXTENSION to a Non Imm O.
If you (any age) are married to a Thai lady AND registered at the Ampur, then it is 400KTHB.
Equivalent pension incomes count. I.e., 40KTHB/month is 480KTHB/year. You need a statement of verification from your Embassy to satisfy the folks at Immigration.

How about when married to Thai, working overseas but spending half the year in country, will they take annual income instead. Say 50k US instead of 400k Thai in the bank. Just an idea if anyone has tried it.

If all you are trying to get is a Non-Immigrant O Visa, you only have to have proof of a Thai wife or child you are supporting in order to obtain the visa. You are not required to show any bank figures. At least, I never have and I have obtained visas from Penang, the US and Riyadh in the past.
If you are trying to get a retirement visa, you will have to show 800,000 Baht in a Thai bank or have a letter from your embassy certifying that you have a minimum of 65,000 baht per month in retirement income. You can do this in Thailand but you must have a non-immigrant O visa in order to convert it. This is for anybody over 50 years old.

Splitting your time between the US and Thailand is not anything the Immigration authorities will care about. They have their rules and that is what they go by.

If you have a 1 year visa and want to go out u need a EXIT visa for 2500 THB something something. If you not get it you need to go back to go and start over.
Remeber this not exclude the every 3 month sign were you live thing...

Exit/reentry visas cost 1,000 Baht. Multiple exit/reentry visas cost 1,900 Baht.
If you are on a retirement visa, there is no requirement to leave the country every 90 days. You do have to show up at immigration and present yourself every 90 days but this takes 10 minutes. Very simple procedure.
