Im hoping to move to Thailand in the next couple of Years and im keeping as many employment options open as possible. Im about to start learning Thai so maybe teaching English could be an option, but as I work in the Construction Industry I was wondering if there is much work around for Farang builders (and developing property to rent or sell to Farangs is definitely another option for me). If there are possibilities of working in Construction It would be another string to my bow.

You may get high level jobs in Project management through a big company on a big new project such as the new airport, or the new rail link terminal, however those guys are often transferred over from within...Italian Thai is one such company, STECON is another.... From the list of prohibited professions 29. Engineering work in civil engineering branch concerning designing and calculation, organisation, research, planning, testing, construction supervision or advising excluding specialised work. 30. Architectural work concerning designing, drawing of plan, estimating, construction directing or advising. That said, I know people who kinda do all of the above. It's not what you know, it's who you know.

Haha, so true. And I know absolutely nobody. Oh well. Hopefully ill be able to buy some property that I can renovate and rent or sell instead. That would probably be better for me anyway. I think Its legal for a Farang to buy and sell property, but not buy land to build new property. Ill read up on it. Thanks Yurune.

1. Manual Work 3. Bricklaying, carpentry or other construction works. Grey area of course, if you renovate a property that you own, is it working...of course if it is a house you cannot own a house unless you do so through a company for example....to own a company you'd have to have a WP etc....what would you be doing?.renovating per se would not get you in. Some others from the list 13. making of Sa paper by hand 25. Making of paper cloth umbrellas 33. Cigarette making by hand 36. Type-setting of Thai characters by hand Just thought I'd piss on anyones party who was considering those professions Loads of loopholes, explore them properly, get professional advise and don't base your plan on ideas gained from a forum like this.

Construction jobs are one of those catigories that for the most part pay less than teaching english. Laborer make $5 a day, skilled craftsman make between $10-$20 a day, usually the foreman is at the top of the scale. That's a day on the wages, not an hour, and sun-up till sun down with 2 days off a month.......lol. All the mega progects in BKK have been scrapped for the time being because of alligations of coruption on the bidding....duh. Keep your eyes open for when they re-issue the bid requests, then contact the companies that get the contracts. Or, if you are of a scale that you could bid on them, go for it. Another possibility to look at is condo speculation. There are cheap condos available most everywhere. Pick the right ones, then rip off farang.............errrr sell them to foriegners. With a little marketing skill this is viable. Pretty much if you don't know someone, or open your own business's, you are left with teaching english.

I like the idea of rippin.. er... selling property to Farang. If its legal for me to buy/sell property to earn a living then I think thats the avenue I should pursue. Im guessing that if I want to buy a place (for example in Hua Hin) and want to improve it (extend and tart it up) then materials and any labour needed shouldnt cost the earth? This is what Ive been planning to do in the UK anyway, so to do it in Thailand would probably just mean making less money per project and ''Living the dream''. Thanks for all your advice. Prsit.
