I would welcome imput from anyone who has imported a car into the kingdom, especially with regard to the value the customs used to assess the import taxes.
With respect I am not looking for advice from anyone who hasn't imported a car

Ok , now that I've had my fun , on to a serious response :-
It really depends on what exactly you wish to Import .
- If it is a new model of any car , then it would be cheaper & more practical ( freight hassles , possibility of transit damage , etc. ) for you to buy that model in Thailand . Also you would need to check if your particular model is available only in your country , which would mean repair & spare parts hassles .
-If is a used car that you wish to Import , the Thai customs would evaluate the price based on the model and year , allow for a modicum of depreciation & then slap on Import Duty & taxes so high that some locally available cars would be a better bet .
UNLESS , of course , your car is a unique model which you cannot get in Thailand and that you just must have with you . In that case - you are going to pay through your nose .

I have no imported a car myself, but have a friend who has done it twice. I would have jumped and told you about his experiences, but I will respect your respectful request about not being interested in knowing what I learned from him.

I do not have a friend who imported two cars but I do have two friends that imported one car each.
I too will not post their trials and tribulations. Suffice it to say they are both finally out of therapy.
My opinion is, the happy poster that placed the limitations on this thread should immediately import his car and post his own experiences for all to read.
Or, as they say in those dreadful English public schools...huzzah, huzzah, huzzah!

If anybody knows how to assess the CIF on a Merc C220D, 1995 (worth B240K there and B900K here) I would be obliged to here. Then I can work out the various taxes. Thanks
