hi,

so, divorce proceedings are underway, and before I settle myself down in dinky-little-town, minnesotta i'm going to try to spend six months in bangkok.

if anyone has recommendations for a good cheap (<18000) apartment close to nana or asoke bts...or hell, anywhere along the bts line close to the action, or the malls, i'll be more than willing to receive them.

also, do I have to arrange for a non-immigrant visa here in the USA, or can I do it when i'm in thailand?

thanks for the info!

-myrth

Well about the visa.... you can't apply for a non immigrant visa in Thailand. So you have to do that in advance.

If you have a non immigrant visa, you won't be able to stay for six months on a single entry.

If you don't work, try to get a double entry visa (Tourist will do). That would cover your full six months with only one border run.

Apartments on Sukhumvit at less than 18,000 baht won't be aplenty though. A good place to try is Saranjai Mansion on Soi 6. A lot of unit owners rent their places out. Expect 15,000 baht up for a small studio.

Also some good priced apartments in Soi 22, but not really close to the BTS.

I thought there a few apartments along Soi 4 going for 10-12,000 B. Of course, there are the pricier ones like Omni Towers, 20,000 B for a studio. Some Russians are staying there.

A friend of mine rented an apartment in Nana Condo for 12,000 baht a month.

It didn't look much different than my room at 3,200 baht.

Trying to figure out how a double entry 60 day tourist visa is going to cover his 6 months with only one border run?

Ahhh, wasn't aware the extention was that long. Only thought it was 7 days.

This might help in finding a long term apartment. The catagory search tab might give you what you are looking for.

That still does not cover 6 full months. Depending of the time of the year, he would still be between 1 and 4 days short.

(Dr this reply from me actually looks like one of your smart-ass posts)
