I went to the Thai Immigration office this morning - the one located near Lumphini Park to get my 3-month VISA extension and found it closed. The new office is located in Chaeng Witthana near Don Mueang airport - about 1 hours drive from the Sukhumvit area.

The signs are poor and the bldg. is hard to find. I went up Hiway 32 towards Don Mueang, turned left on Chaeng Witthana just before Don Mueang, went to Chaeng Witthana 7, turned left and proceeded to the end of Chaeng Witthana 7. The bldg. is on the right.

For the google earth fans:

Lat = 13 degrees 52' 47.99"N
Long = 100 degrees 33' 52.29" E

The actual process took about 15 minutes, so its all driving time!

Cheers............

Yes, since September 28th. It's near Laksi Plaza...

I thought you had a 1 year visa... or maybe you are confused and refer to 90 days reporting?

BTW If you are referring to 90 days reporting, you can do that by post... no need to drive.

I am on a 1 year retirement visa which I have to extend/report every 3 months. After today's drive, I will definitely take advantage of the post!

I am not looking forward to 2010 when I will have to deposit 800,000 baht into my Kasikorn account to extend the visa for another year.

Anyone have an easy way around this requirement?

If your visa is valid for a year, there is no extension necessary.

Only report every 90 days.. as said you can do that per post.

Extensions and reporting are two different things.

No, there is no way around. The 800,000 baht should be seasoned in your bank account for three months before applying for your next 1 year extension application.

that's my big concern jingjo - putting that much USD in a Thai bank - especially as you can live on a lot less! WHen you decide to go home, I am sure you will have to pull some dodgy maneuvers to get your money back out of Thailand.

i am not ready to return to the USA, but don't really see an alternate as limitation free as a retirement visa and its 800,000 baht requirement.

Dr. Love - if I have kept a balance of around 200,000 baht in my account since arriving in April and bring the balance up to 800,000 baht in Jan. 2010, and that balance is on record in April 2010 when I apply for another 1 year visa, is that considered "seasoned"?

cheers....................

Yes.

If you apply for your extension, you have to show that the 800,000 baht have been in your account since 3 months.

Even if your balance is 0 until you put the 800,000 baht 3 months before, you're still OK.

After your extension is approved, you can take the money out until January 2011.
