Guys,

3 months extendable contract available working around Thailand (BKK based).
Need experienced/senior contractors only. Foreigners welcome/preferred obviously!

This is the chance everyone has been waiting for - any experienced NSN Optimization/network planning engineers anyways

But be quick this role will go faster than one could say 'hot show dancer at nana' lol!

Anyone?

Cheers!

I got this in my eMail twice from a recruiter, wish I had the right experience for it.

I also recently got an unofficial offer to work in BKK from a colleague, but I've got so many things to tie up here before I can do that.

So many things to consider, losing my apartment here that took me months to get into & forfeiting my deposit (violating the one year lease), not to mention probably ruin my chances of getting back in here if/when I returned.

Then there's my car, sell, store ?, so many things to think about.

clearly you never worked as a freelance contractor & probably never well

but there is no need to to sell off anything or leave anything behind you where ever you are in the world lol to take up such work.
simply book a flight & some temporary accomodation in Bkk & off you go for the 3 month stint & return back to base with all the cash again once the deal is done & dusted

its really that simple!
all it takes is to be qulified & chosen obviously...
cheers!

on that assumption you'd be dead wrong & I don't know how you come to that conclusion.

I jumped around all over LOS working 6 months, one year, 18 months, but it was easy to take all my gear with me then. This is quite different, talking about LEAVING for what could be long term. If your contract is extended and they need you working you won't have time to go back home and settle your affairs.

The job I'm talking about is considered long term anyway, not a short term contract.

That would be called ABANDONING your assets.
I guess you would off and leave your car to rot in a parking lot & have flat tires or be stolen when you returned in 3 months or more.

BTW, I don't think the job in the OP is hot as an NEP show dancer, since it's been bouncing around in my eMail for two weeks now. Maybe they are just having a hard time finding people qualified to are willing to take on an initially short term contract.

Clearly, chili is right in his assumption.

dead wrong

I wasn't working as a staff member all those years in LOS, the VAST majority of my work was done as a contractor, just the kind chilli mistakenly says I never was nor could ever be, LMAO !

So you also believe expats just abandon everything in their home country ?, doesn't make sense to me. That wouldn't have worked well on several jobs I had in LOS, starting with 3 months contracts & in most cases ended up being several months and 3-1/2 years in one case.

I have been doing IT contracts for the past 14 years.

You have to be very flexible and prepared to travel and up roots very quickly for often an indeterminate amount of time.

I wouldnt take a contract for three months especially having to move from US to Thailand. Not worth it.

Last year I took a contract from Perth and moved to Singapore. I only went because they offered me a twelve month contract. The money was really good around 35k Sing a month but I had to pay everthing including airfares and accommodation which is very expensive in Singapore. I spend almost 60K on accommodation and then quite a lot on airfares. And on top of that they ended the contract two months early so I lost out there. Further there were a bunch of guys who came over a few months back and because of sudden budget cuts as a result of the iron ore price dropping they were axed after a month and many of them out of pocket 20-30k sing.

Sure it was worthwhile for me but you have to weigh it all up and consider what you have got where you are and all the risks assosiated with moving to another country and of course the bottom line.

Further to my previous post I dont even own a car or any furniture in Australia.

I have a property which is rented out and when I get a contract I go and rent a furnished apartment close to where I work.

When the contract is over I move on to wherever the next job is.

If I dont want to work like now I stay in Thailand where I have a rented apartment in Pattaya.

Most people probably wouldnt want to live like I do but I like it and I meet lots of people and travel and work all over the world.

that's exactly the sort of thing I want to avoid

Exactly what I was talking about. I'm talking about transforming back into the style of living you're in now. I did it for 16 years & I've become a little accustomed to not moving so often, but I am not unwilling to uproot. That said there are things that need to be considered for a backup plan.

You must've meant "will".

I have a job lined up for next year that will require me to move to Hong Kong and Macau for up to 6 months. My quote to the client, above and beyond my direct fees, accommodations and per diem, also included the cost to maintain my Southern California place, utilities and sundries during the same time, including 2-3 return trips to check on stuff. This is standard practice.
