I posted a link (Stickmans reader submissions) to a very touching story of a farangs marriage to a Thai women and the wife's familys rejection of the farang upon the wife's death. His relationship with the wife's daughter, his family, and life in general.
This is extremily well written and a true reflection of life itself. Please take the time to read this you won't regret it. As Brother cmore often say's "Peace"!

If nothing else, this should help to shatter illusions farangs may have about being assimilated into Thai family life and a farang "being Thai" in Thailand. I think it's well balanced, and I am glad that he returned to BKK -- I think he owed that to his daughter, and it took spending time back in the States for him to gain that perspective.
This account is as much an indictment of insular Thai beliefs and structures as it is about the process of aging and bias in the West. There is no panacea, and in searching for the "Lost Horizons" of family some of us may have experienced in growing up (especially in New England), it is important not to project wants and beliefs on a society that is fundamentally not the same. As Khun Jou Yai always reminds me, "it is what it is, Balls, you have to accept it that way and act accordingly, or stay out."
