It should be simple enough....but must be done in home amphur.....with the correct paperwork....not many ways you can help.....but an out of date card is illegal...so get it done now....

Yeah - she will have to go to her home, get the family house papers, and then go to the local teh wah garn [ Municipal office ] to get it done, - she will also need the family papers to get a passport if she hasnt got one yet - that takes about 10 days, but is done out at Laksi, bangkok. Can she get a Visa simply ???  most embassies these days, e.g. US, UK, Aus, NZ for example, are making it tough on TGs, especially if they have no proof of job/income, dont have 200,ooo + in the bank, and can not offer any good reasons why they would want/need to return to thailand, - even in the case of a sponser, proof of a long term relationship is required, pictures together, with her family, telephone bills, emails etc -

My thoughts are that it depends.

As I see it, if she is genuine Thai and has family of her own (not in laws) and a village to go to, then it should be easy peasy to get a new ID.

However, if she is an illegal immigrant or a Thai orphan, and someone who therefore has no Thai family of her own, and no land or property of her own, she is probably outside the Thai legal system and will probably find it difficult to get another thai ID if she has lost the one she had, or divorced and not kept on good terms with the inlaws. In this case you may need to come up with the cash to oil the wheels of the Thai bureacracy etc to make sure she gets a suitable ID replacement (which might not be in the same name as her last ID).

Sure, it is not always easy for a Thai lady to get or keep a ID card.

For instance if they do not have a Thai birth certificate it can be tricky to get the birth registered and this affects school registration, ID cards etc. all through their life. Thailand is a real bureaucracy getting to grips with a highly mobile population in border areas especially.

As to getting girls into AUS/NZ/UK/USA/NOR/SWE/GER etc. it is actually not that difficult but DO NOT turn up at the embassy with just a filled out application and a fis full of Baht. The chances of getting one are slim.

Use a reputable agent who will put you through the wringer and force even your lazy TG to knuckle under and produce the right papers and story. I've done it for my lady and seen three times refused ladies sail through. Choose the right agent and they will give a partial refund if refused but HAVE NEVER HAD TO.

The ID card issue is a hassle... My lady was registered in an amphur just north of Phuket (Phang Nga) and she was married but had not updated her ID card...

When she wanted a new passport they refused in BKK on the basis that her passport indicated the married name and the ID card did not...

Back to Phuket and a trip to Phang Nga office got some forms filled out and 4 months later we were still waiting on the card !!! Then as she wanted to move to the local Amphur (and we have no Tabien Baan because its a rented house) she had to re apply using a cousins house and that also took a lot of messing a couple of months and the usual hassle...

The red tape piles up so fast its hard to cut through it all...

That said VISA's to the UK were easy... Simpy showed them my bank account, my UK address, and her passport and it was issued on the spot (well collected that afternoon but agreed on the psot) every time..
