I used to go to Korea on business in mid 80s, with Daewoo, and in Seoul but even more so Pusan, Korean freelancers and bar girls were a lot of fun.
Sometime between then and the mid 90s all that underwent a major attitude shift, and Korean bar girls and freelancers are now distinctly less friendly, more costly, and have deveoped an attitude problem.
I also know a lot of ex-US servicemen who have/had Korean wives and most of them ex-BGs, as always a lot of problems and heartbreak, some success stories. But as a general rule when Korean girls turn into head cases they are really bad. Korea has a HIGHER suicide rate than Japan, is very Confucian and hierarchical and is a pressurecooker society. BGs are much more ostracized than in Thailand and Korean-Western marriages are not looked upon at all favorably. To a large extent this attitude persists among Korean-Americans, assimilation is slow and painful.
The "Korean bars" in Bangkok like their Japanese counterparts are organized crime owned, staffed with Thai girls, and not at all friendly to anyone not Korean. I doubt there are any Korean girls to be found there, maybe mamasans but I doubt even that, and if there are -- no one who isn't a Hangul speaking Korean is going to gain access to those places, he will be confronted by Kim the bouncer who looks a whole lot like Harold Sakata ("Oddjob" in Goldfinger) and is a Tae Kwan Do professor.

Sauron, could not agree more. A few years ago Seoul was a lot of fun, nowadays you have to be really careful, that the girls do not take out alll your money. The last time I went with my buddy (last year), we payed 400$ for just drinking 2 beers each, the rest went down the girls throuat as tequilas. and wahat ddid we get ???????????? -- the bill. I am cured of that country and the girls there.
... staying there and being an english teacher is supposed to be a good approach.

first of all I agree with sauron on the korean situation. I think it was the olympics that did the job.
but in those korean clubs there is usually. the owner, then there is madame, and there are alway one or two cuties who act as assistant to the madame.
they can be entertained, but have to be sponsored heavily.
I did entertain, but when it came to the spnsership, I rolled my tail in.
not to recommend.

Yes indeed it was the Olympics that transformed Itaewon from bachelor's paradise to sucker's hell -- unless you were Korean.
I liked the Koreans, I liked eating with them (even kimchee), I liked getting drunk with them (even soju) and I even outdid them sometimes like eating whole garlic cloves at lunch.
In Pusan things changed more slowly than in Seoul. Texas Street changed from being a GI bar strip to being a haunt of Russian fisherman from the Vladivostok fleets. Sorry, Russian brothers, but fish smell, puke and cheap voBKa are a bad combination. I used to hang at the disco of the Commodore Hotel at the mouth of Texas Street, it was great in '85. No more. The Westin Chosun Beach was a great place too (that's where I stayed.) No more.
I also used to spend a lot of time at Fort Bragg (Fayetteville NC) and there was a strip of Korean bars for GIs on Hay Street, since cleaned out, and other places where Viet girls and Thai girls could be found. All GI or ex GI wives of course, Army from Bragg (at that time, 5th and 7th SF plus 82nd Airborne) plus USAF wives and ex's from the large airbase next door. Naturally this could be pricey. $150 if she liked you, or if you went in the wrong place you could drop $800 in the bar as I did one time, and get nothing for it.
That's what we mean when we say you can take the girl out of the bar but not vice versa.

Sauron seems to know well about Korean's in general. Yup, Koreans are a blast to party with, but sometimes a pain in the ass if you aren't. If you think drunk Issan taxi drivers are loud and rowdy... Get some fine scotch into some "salarymen" and that's an embarrasment just to observe. 
On a side note: If the current call for "social order" escalates in LoS, the only end result would be like that of Korea and Singapore... Expensive and impersonal, not that it ain't like that already in alot of bars in Nana, Sc, and Patpong.

If you're looking for Korean girls in Bangkok I might suggest checking out Casanova in NEP. Seriously, I think the similarities between most Korean prostitutes and Katoeys (both in looks and attitude) are greater than to normal Thai bargirls.
