I'm coming to BKK for the second time. I stayed at Majestic Suites the first time (6 nights) and enjoyed it there. I'm looking for a better price for areas close to the Beer Garten and Nana area. Marc at Eden and a couple of others have recommended the Grand President. One other member here recommended http://www.brightcitytower.com and I'm trying to evaluate which is the better deal for me. I'm a big guy, and don't want to have to walk a mile to get to the Nana BTS. On the map, Bright City looks close. GP looks close too. Cost-wise, Bright City looks about 15-20% cheaper than Grand President. ÝGP does look like a nicer room, though. I'll be staying in BKK for 25 nights, and then have 3-4 nights at one of the beach towns (probably Pattaya).

With you staying 25 nights, Bob the manager at the Majestic Suites should be willing to deal on the price. About 15 meters away from the MJ is the Parkway Hotel. Friend stayed there. Decent hotel about 200 less then MJ. Where are you staying in Pattaya? What are your dates?

Yes, Bob was willing to deal somewhat. However, I'd like something a little nicer. And like with women, sometimes you just want a little "change". I'm not sure on the Pattaya dates. Somewhere in the middle of my trip to break it up a bit. I think I'm arriving on the late "cattle truck" on August 19th. Leaving 29 days later.

Jaimito~ Staying at the Grand President now. Gotta say it is really an outstanding value at the 1550 baht rate I got. Nana BTS stairs are right at the top of Soi 11 and Sukh. ÝTook a motorbike taxi last night and discovered a great walkers shortcut between soi 11 and soi 7 using the back of the Park Hotels lot. Look for the Park Hotel sign on soi 11, just next to the Thai. Govt. Building. and bear to your left thru the wide open parking area. Also, soi 11 is directly opposite to soi 8 which puts Alley Cats and some great TTM (Preaw Beauty) right across Sukh. which can be walked to without using the overhead bridges if traffic is light, and you mind the motos in between the lanes Ý Ý

JC... the Grand President and the BrightCity is a mere 50 meters away!! but the price difference is like B500!! if u r comparing GPs' Topaz Studio to BrightCitys', then i personally find there is not much different in this area. the BC B900 Suite is just as big and as neat or should i say as worn out as the GP. what u pay extra in GP is the hotel facilties, swimming pool, room services etc etc. where as in BC, which is a service apartment, the only services u'll get is free laundry (long term) and have yr room cleaned everyday. i just got back from my 6th trip this year, and i had stayed in the BrightCity all this while (budget ) my advise is book the Bright city first and if u don like it, shift to the GP!! but do remember that the BC will not refund yr room $$$, so its wise to book a couple of days first and extend from there!! one thing that i have to tell u about the BC is that the bed is damn bloody HARD!!! i usually gets a bad back by the 3rd day. hope it wont happen to u!!

If ur on a long term stay and prefer a room with cooking facilities (small kitchen) , BC is a nice place. Its girl friendly, you have ur own key to the building main door. Have stayed there a couple of times.

I will be looking for a two bedroom apartment in January and this place looks good and I like the location near the sky-train. Price is more then I want to pay. I may beable to do better with a long term rental.

Another possibility, for longer stays, is Sookswasdi Apartments, just before Bright City. ÝRatchanee Majjimanonda (Khun Ratchanee, tel. 02- 2533890) runs the place. ÝIt is just an apartment building, but has livable apartments for about 12,000/month. ÝNot a serviced apartment, you will have to clean it, or hire someone (cheap) to clean it for you. ÝI saw a one bedroom, which had just been vacated, and not yet cleaned. ÝI wasn't impressed, but I could afford the 27,000/month for one of the larger studios (not Topaz) at the Grand President. Because of the location, if I were on a budget, I would consider Sookswasdee, because Ratchanee has a reputation as an honest and conscientious person. Don't know if they have 2 bedroom apts, though (BigD). Just another option. haam sup

Chrisboy - Well the price difference between GP and Bright City is about 200 baht a day, after negotiations. GP has quoted me 7500 a week, for a Topaz studio. I do need a firm bed, as long as it's comfortable. I think I will probably end up at the GP this time, and then check out some of the other places for a trip next year.

7500 nett would be an EXCELLENT weekly price currently, but watch for the 10% service charge, and the 5% credit card surcharge, making it 8625/wk... haam sup
