Greetings all. I'm just about to embark on my second trip to Bkk and I'm contemplating renting a serviced apartment in the Sukhumvit area. I have slight reservations towards the security deposit which are allegedly refundable on the expiry of you proposed length of stay. Does any person have experience of recieving back a deposit or not as the case may be. I appreciate any genuine damaged item must and should be payed for, however I would feel to be held over a barrel when asking for my deposit back. I expect it may vary from place to place. I have considered too many different apartments to list so I am looking for a general opinion. Thanks

Ha ha ha ha. The best joke I seen in a long time. Money back from a Thai Ha Ha, the only way is to short the last month or so in rent to use the deposit up.

C'mon TU, don't be so hard! If the guy goes to reliable places such as President or Center Point, he will have his deposit back for sure!

Apartments will take on deposit upfront for long term stay while making you pay rent at weeks/months end. Electricity/water/security etc is the additional charge as to the rent price. Sometime utilities will be inclusive and do ask about all charges. What get you is the PHONE charges....they will be high as hell so unlock the mobile or get another at MBK cause apt phones suck $$$$$.

You'll will been just fine as to Ambassador check in for thier serviced apartments. Make sure you tell them apartment; Royal when arriving there at the service desk. They are a big convention center catering to tours mostly. The apartments are clean and nice 3 star etc and hidden in the back tower area. You can use all services too. Get to Nana, Edens, massage, skytrain, Cowboy real easy too. No worries just tell outside taxicab service Abassador on Suk Soi 11.

Got my deposit back every time in Thailand, if it not used for last month rent/bills etc. Sometimes it takes time, but just remind them all the time and they will give up..

In the many years in Thailand I stayed in many apartments. Not one time did I have a problem getting back the deposit. The only problem I had with one apartment (Nasa Vegas on Ramkhamhaeng) were the expenses not in the contract (like cleaning the curtains or repainting the room for the next guests). No, there were no stains ------------------------------------------------------------------------ the only way is to short the last month or so in rent to use the deposit up. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Most apartments won't let you do that. Because then there is no money left to cover damages or telephone bills or so. Also a lot of apartments charge for more than a month (1.5 or 2 months). But in general, I won't worry about it. It's usually in the contract or make sure you get a receipt with the words' refundable deposit'. Keep your receipt well, because they might want to have it returned when you're money has been paid back.

Pleased to say I had two enjoyable months at Center Point Petchburi Road and had no problems with the return of the deposit. I paid 35k a month for a studio without kitchen. A little on the high side I felt but the staff were quite friendly and the place had a decent Pool and Gym. My only complaint would be the food in the restraunt which I found to be a little below par for such an establishment, but overall a pleasent stay was had.

Presumably from his large volume of posts, Thaidup has lived here for a decent amount of time, but perhaps his experience is the exception rather than the rule. Of every single person I know that has rented an apartment here, I am the only one to have been docked for part of the security deposit; this was due to my cat scratching up the leather lounge suite something chronic Doc Dre style. I think we agreed to knock off 5,000b; certainly no where near the price of the lounge suite, but a fair reflection of the wear and tear. If Thaidup could provide more info of where he stayed, then that might provide a warning. From my own experience; I have stayed in Thai style studios, a 5 beddy in Pahonyothin and friends have been in Ruamrudee, Sathorn and Sukhumvit. No problems in any of the buildings. Take care of the place as you would your own and you'll be fine. Treat it like crap, annoy all the security guards and Mair bahn etc and they might try to get back at you via the deposit I guess.
