This might be a stupid question, but I'm going to be visiting BBK in the next month or so and was thinking of staying in a serviced apartment instead of a hotel since they seemed to be much cheaper yet offer more. However I'm only going to be visiting for 10 days and a couple of booking websites I've been to all seem to require a 1-month stay whether at President Park or Emporium Suites. Is this just the booking website, or do these serviced apartments actually require 1 month stays?

Thanks in advance.

Mr Alan
The booking site is advertising a special rate for a monthly stay, but the apartments themselves do not require a minimum stay. Just remember that the daily rate for short stays will usually be more than the equivalent monthly rate (per day). Some places may offer special weekly rates.

You can visit the apartment websites to see the rates, including web specials, and monthly rates, although sometimes you have to inquire by email for the monthly discount rate.

Nearly every non 4/5 star hotel will give a reduced daily rate for a one week stay/comittment.

Great, thanks for the information, I was getting confused there for a second about the one month minimum requirements. But it does look like there is a huge rate difference between monthly and daily, hopefully the weekly will be somewhere in the middle. Hrm, it also seems like I accidentally double posted...I wonder if I could delete that other post.

Thanks for you help.

No you can't delete it but a moderator will when they notice the double posts so don't worry about it.

I stayed at the Emporium Suites for just two nights a few weeks ago to test it out as an option for longer stays by myself or other employees of the company for which I work. Short-term (less than a week) was $100 a night, which considering the facilities (included a full kitchen and very impressive entertainment system) was better value for money than five-star Suk hotels. For 10 days, you should be able to negotiate it down a bit, but that depends on how booked up it is. It's the monthly rate that really saves you money. It is indeed a very impressive facility in every way - hugely popular with TGs as well.

Day rates v. monthly rates:

I vaguely recall that new regulations will soon be imposed by whatever Thailand Department of Redundancy Department to restrict the day rates serviced apartments have been selling.

The BKK serviced apartment market is growing quite crowded, as many high end for-rent apartments and for-sale condominiums converted to serviced apartments when the market hit the wall.

Consequently, serviced apartment owners have been leasing apartments on a daily rate basis to maintain occupancies. Serviced apartments position themselves just beneath average 5-star hotel price points, offering larger units with good amenities. This has cutting into the 5-star hotel market's occupancies and pushed rates down.

The structure of serviced apartment rents generates lower taxes for the Thai government, so officials are sympathetic to the appeals of the hotel owners for relief.

To prevent further erosion of the 5-star hotel revenues and tax revenues, new regulations will preclude serviced apartments from booking unnits for less that 1-month.

I forgot when this is scheduled to phase-in, but for some reason I am thinking it is soon.
