Darwin Award alert!

"Also, soi 11 is directly opposite to soi 8 which puts Alley Cats and some great TTM (Preaw Beauty) right across Sukh. which can be walked to without using the overhead bridges if traffic is light, and you mind the motos in between the lanes"

Yeah, Skippy, cross Sukhumvit there, even help Jojje across...but please don't advise others to do so. ŬThe pedestrian overpass is what? 50 meters from Soi 11?

Natural selection at work...

Jaimito Cartero,

GP quoted me a weekly rate of 10500 baht in May for a Topaz Studio. With 20% discount TSM and then 10% service charge I assume that would have worked out at 9240 baht. Even with surcharge you are paying 8250 baht weekly.
Soi 11 is terrific location wise. As Skip says take the shortcut to Soi 7, and an added bonus is if you are taking the Sky Train there is an escalator up to the ticket area.
GP has a fitness centre and in room safes which Bright City does not appear to have.
I stayed in Admiral Suites on Soi 22 in July. Better rooms but the big problem was location. I will go for GP again on my next trip.

PP,
I have never seen any four poster beds at the GP, but I'm not sure what you refer to as a 'standard room'. Topaz studios are the lowest priced room there, all in Tower III, and they have regular beds, as do the Pearl Suites, also Tower III.

Maybe someone who has stayed in one of the other towers can comment.

I like Tower III, upper floors, because you never hear the birds in that stupid aviary, and the entrance is quieter.

good luck,

I cross the road regularly at that point, I hate bridges.

Lets be honest on Sukhumvit it's no more dangerous to cross there than at a designated place.

They still don't stop.

I like bridges, just not the trolls that inhabit them...

Please be careful.  I have personally witnessed 2 nasty accidents along that stretch...

I can comment on the regular rooms at the GP.  The rooms include a kitchen and sitting area w/ t.v.  Also another room for the bedroom and bath.

Can anyone describe the Topaz studio?

Thanks...

Topaz Studio has a single large bed, with a wall closet, the doors of which are mirrored. ŬThere are drawers and a safe in one side of the closet. ŬA counter runs along the wall opposite the bed, and holds a TV, and Mini-Stereo, as well as a writing area. ŬThe wall opposite the closet, next to the bed, has another mirror, and a narrow counter.

A kitchen area, with large refrigerator, hotplate, microwave and sink, typically has a small window at the end of the narrow space, and a door to the bathroom. Bathroom has a tub/shower combo, and a sink/countertop.

There are a couple variations, but that is basically the plan. ŬThere are also some cupboards with dishes and drawers with utensils in the kitchen.

Freshly refurbished, these rooms are VERY nice, and even the older ones aren't bad. ŬA tip: for about 100 baht at Pantip, I bought a mini-jack to RCA stereo cable, and used the AUX input on the stereo to play MP3s from my notebook. ŬGood for those LONG playlists, while you are otherwise occupied

The management seems to have changed in the recent past, so I don't know what the service is like now. ŬI ALWAYS had great maids there, and never felt insecure about my belongings. ŬThere WAS a housekeeping supervisor that I didn't trust - she was always lounging about on guests' beds, while the maids cleaned the room, and I got the impression she was a bit sneaky, but I never heard of any shennanigans.

Back in 1998, the cruel scum bags at the Ambassador kept a monkey in a small cage near the bird aviary.  What scary sounds that poor creature made early in the morning.

Now if we can only produce a killer Electro-Magnetic Pulse to knock out the loudspeaker on the f_cking produce truck that cruises soi 11 at 7AM every few days...I swear I went shopping for a pair of wire cutters, and some FAST tennies to do a cut-and-run on the asshole's truck...
