Mr Alan
I noticed that several 3rd party reservation websites list the prices at the Admiral as inclusive of 7% VAT.

However, the Admiral site (http://www.admiralsuites.com) says: "Rates are in Thai Baht excluding applicable taxes (currently 7%)."

The quoted rates are the same on both sites. Seems like something got lost in the translations to English?

Mr Alan
Checked into the Admiral Suites yesterday. Couple of issues that people has asked about. All answers based on Deluxe Studio (45 sqm) room.

1. Rooms are nice as others have said. Lot of storage in the Deluxe studio, which is not really needed for a short or medium length stay.

2. My room has fairly large safe. 13 in wide, 13 in deep, and 22 inches high (apologies for those who want metric sizes). These are the ìinsideî measurement, but the safe door makes the opening a little smaller. Looks like a laptop would fit in the safe (maybe at a diagonal) but not sure. The safe has small ledge to hold a shelf, but it was not present in my safe. It the shelf was present it could be removed to hold the laptop. Not sure if all rooms have the same size safe as mine. Donít know about Internet access from the room-ñcheck with the management.

3. The cafÈ next to the Admiral does have an Internet terminal, but I have not tried it since I havenít eaten there yet. Went to an Internet cafÈ at 2nd floor of Times Square Building next to Sheraton (Asoke BTS station) where high speed access is 1 baht per minute. You can purchase 25 hours of time for 750 baht (.5 baht per minute).

4. Admiral Building is rectangular shaped, and short side of the building is on Soi 22, but most rooms do not face the Soi, so very little noise regardless of what floor you are on.  With A/C on (fan on low) I can't hear any outside noise.

5. No separate shower, but fairly large bathtub. Shower nozzle is attached to hose about 5 feet long so 2 people taking a shower at once in probably OK (not tried it yet).

6. There is a stereo system and video tape player (VCR). The stereo system also plays DVD (VCD), although there are no cables connected from the stereo/video player to the TV (but there are jacks on the back).  You could probably use the cables hooked to the video tape player, but I noticed there is only a single video RCA cable (not coax) hooked to it and the TV, and no audio outputs. I am not sure, but I think a separate audio cable is required. You could probably get the management to hook up the DVD (VCD) for you (or bring your own video/audio cables). I noticed that they seem to have the same problems hooking up equipment as the President Park (same management company).

7. The Admiral Suites is just down the street (on opposite side) from Imperial Queens Park (coming from Sukhimvitt). No Taxi driver is likely to know where it is, but if you go the Queens Park and continue down the Soi itís about 75 meters.

Mr Alan
Just to clarify some issues about the Admiral after staying a few days:

1. The stereo unit in the room plays VCD (video CD's) but not DVD's. I did not know there was a difference until today. VCD's have lower resolution than DVD's (VCD's are more like a VCR in quality). Both are for sale in video stores, and the VCD's are much cheaper. I am not sure about which titles are available in VCD format, but it appears they are made for the local market. The stereo unit plays CD's (including CD-R) and cassette tape, and has FM radio. There is also a VCR (tape) in the room.

2. According to a sign in the elevator, the rooms have internet access at 128 Mbps. The cost is about 200 baht per day, 1200 per week, and 2350 per month. There is also a refundable deposit required for the modem and/or USB adapter if necessary.

3. I noticed that there are a few rooms that face Soi 22, but most are facing 90 degrees away. Just ask for a quiet room away from Soi 22.

Mr. Alan,

So did you wind up paying 38,000B for the deluxe room?  And quoted 33,000B for the superior room?  Did you have to pay extra for service charge, tax, credit card charge, or any other fees?

Did you stay exactly 30 days?  Just curious to know how they'd handle 34 or 38 days.

Were you able to find a convenient location for breakfast nearby?

One last question, was it a long walk to the Times Square building or did you have to take the skytrain?

Thanks.

Mr Alan
I got the Deluxe room for 38,000 per month. But I actually only stayed 28 days. The just charged me 1,267 baht per day (38,000 divided by 30) for 28 days. So you can stay for more than 30 days and get the same daily rate. You don't have to check-in on the first of the month to get those rates.

There was no service charge, tax, or credit card charge. However, you will need to get confirmation in advance to avoid the credit card charge. The best way is to send an email to Sid, the manager (check out the website for address).

There is a restaurant in the building called Coffee Max. They serve Western and some Thai food. I ate breakfast there sometimes and Thai food a few times. Nothing great, but OK. The hotel offered me American breakfast at the Coffee Max for an extra 2000 baht per month, but I declined. There is also a 24-hour mini-mart on the street side of the building (Soi 22).

Admiral Suites is down Soi 22, in-between Asok (Sheraton/Times Square) and Phom Phrong (Emporium) BTS stops. But it is closer to Emporium. Also, I don't like crossing Asok on foot (to get to Times Square) because you can't tell when the light will change and the streets are very wide. I typically walked to Emporium for food, shopping, banking, etc, and then took BTS to Times Square or other places in BKK. Occasionally I did walk from Admiral to Times Square for cheap internet access.
