As AW pointed out I was just taking the piss. There are some locations, such as Sydney, Australia. That generally don’t need much clarification in regard to specific location. While there are several cities in the US by the name of Sydney most people (even from the US – and especially when reading on an international web board) will assume when someone says they are from Sydney they mean the one in Australia. Also please accept my apologies for that American back in 1983 – geography is certainly not a strong point for most Americans. Most of us are not very well versed in US geography let alone world georgraphy. Unfortunately I yet to have the pleasure of visiting the lovely country of Australia, many of the mates I hang out with in Tokyo are from down under, and I certainly harbor no ill feelings for the country or the people. I even tip back a VB every now and again.

Hi there, I have e-ticket in my inbox and flight takes off 8th of April - just in time for Songkran. Eternal kid that I am waterpistols and powder always get me in playfull mood... One thing still open is where to stay this time. I have stayed in Grand President (excellent swimming pool - from noon to sundown boiling temperature), Solitaire (not bad pool there either) and Royal (pool inside, big mistake). I was wondering whether there are other apartment hotels in same district having nice pool and "friendly" door policy? Or should I just get stick with my habbit and get room from Sol or Grand? Cheers

Emporuim Suites has beautiful pool. President Park also has nice pool. But the best pool is Sheraton Sukhumvit.

Hwa, I was there in August, big room, nice bed, internet, plasma screen, girl friendly, ok pool, good breakfast etc. On paper it is great, but I didnt enjoy it... noisy a/c, low ceiling, hall carpets stained and I didnt enjoy any of the pubs on the soi. But the thai girls loved it. Next month, I am going back to my usual accomadation,Admiral Suites on Soi 22. ps both locations are about a km from Suk.

I'd suggest the Centre Point Petchburi, but they have some massive renovations going on in their lobby right now (rooms are unaffected), so it looks like a bomb went off. Still, at 1,900 THB per night, along with all the conveniences, it's a nice place to temporarily call 'home'. (book through AtSiam.com and you get a decent price and VAT and svc charge included, which CP would otherwise add on).

Had a great time in Paris last week...just a few hours from Dallas or Houston TX.... A slightly dfferent perspective here: I wonder if there really is "something" called the USA. While the language across the fifty states is roughly the same, customs, world views, politics, etc. are markedly different. As a labor leader, some thirty years ago emigrating from Pittsburgh to Miami, I called the local Miami newspaper and asked for the labor desk.....not even a clue what the question was. Roughly 1/2 of the drive norh from Miami to NYC is consumed driving through at least three different cultures, all in Florida...then you hit Georgia. When I lived in Chicago, 90% of the cars in my lot had McGovern bumper stickers....parking that car in a Holiday Inn overnight in Georgia resulted in "Commie" wrtitten on the windshield, and the sticker torn off. This is not to diminish the terrible scores USA students get in geography. Ask an Asian/European where Des Moines is on a map, or even pick Los Angeles out of Seattle/LA/SF/San Diego on the West Coast USA map, and I think we will get the same low scores. We know what is important to our lives....and most USA folks have a mind eye's view of the several states surrounding them. Its very similar to the EU: my family in Italy and Germany know France, they know Spain, they know Belgium....but the road system in GB?
