I'm shocked - I would have figured that someone with your level of experience regarding Thailand would know that going directly through any hotel only yields the regular retail prices (which is what you quoted) - and to get best prices (or, rather, 'real' prices), you would have to go through a hotel broker or discount website. In fact, the rate you listed would be further inflated by CP by adding tax and service charges, if you went direct through them and their website. The price I listed is the regular price I paid via AtSiam.com ($61) : http://atsiam.com/hotels/bangkok/centre_point_petchburi_thailand.asp Incidentally, CP Sukhumwith is prices at 2180 baht ($64) for a studio / 38sq/m (though they have a wider variety of accommodations) : http://atsiam.com/hotels/bangkok/centre_point_sukhumvit_thailand.asp Do you actually pay retail prices when you book your hotels in Thailand? Does anyone? I didn't think you were a noob....?

You are right. I knew you would come back giving us the information on where to find the rate. I was just too lazy to start looking for the links to the reservations websites (and lazy also to look for a post of Dr. Love -so as to find the link that is in all his posts).... and I was also too proud to ask you directly for the link 555. Thanks.

I checked out Centrepoint on Wireless the other day. It's a great location right off Ploenchit station. I found a small market nearby on Sukhumvit, there is a mini mart downstairs, and a 7-11 around the corner. I saw the Studio and the 1 Bedroom unit. Studio does not have the washer and dryer. But get this, the low occupancy rates right now they have a crazy deal that puts the studio with breakfast at 1600 baht ++ on agoda.com. Total came out to be $53.87 per night. 1 Bedroom is twice as much. Compared to Fraser Suites, it's not quite as nice or modern. But pricewise, it cannot be beat...

Quote: from quack quack on 11:59 am on Dec. 31, 2008 Agoda don't include tax + service charges in their quotes, that's why Agoda's prices are lower than almost anybody. If ( say) Agoda quotes $ 50 for a hotel, what is the percentage and likely amount that will be added to one's bill for the service charge and tax?
Tax for the room was about $8/night for a $45 room. You can find out how much you will be charged if you click on the book it button. I checked several other websites like latestays and saw that their rate for CentrePoint wireless road was about double what Agoda was charging for the same time, same room. It was a no-brainer in this case...

AtSiam's prices include VAT and service fees - so their prices are what you pay. I'm not sure about currency conversion and how they handle that, I don't really care. The prices on my credit card invariably are close within a few dollars what my calculator tells me they should be. I've been using them for 3 years.

I think Sawadee offers a relatively unfavourable exchange rate equivalent to a surcharge of 2.5%.

That's a killer price on Centre Point Wireless, though the extra $8 they may tack on does bring it up to roughly $60/night -- which still appears to be a good discount over their regular broker prices. Might be worth it, albeit I wonder how this landscape will look in another couple of weeks/months.
