I rarely see the Omni get much of a mention anymore. A few years ago on some of the Thai related forums quite a few people mentioned staying there, but recently it just doesn't seem to get much attention. I have almost always stayed at the Grand President in one of their Royal Suites in Tower II, but I was less than impressed with their service on my last trip. Further, I noticed that they are trying to actually charge more this year for what I consider to be adequate service at best. So, I am thinking of switching over to the Omni as the 1 Bedroom Suites look decent. Once upon a time I had read quite a few good reviews about the place - but rarely do I see many updates anymore. I am not exactly thrilled with the location so far down Soi 4, but I can deal with the walk if that is its worst flaw. Any thoughts, comments or opinions? Are there still no charges for guests? The rooms up to a reasonable standard? I do appreciate any input.

Hey Holy did ya move yet to the Omni ? I too stay at the GP mostly when Im in BKK but want to find other mid- priced type 1 bedrooms with some amenities around; pool, restaurants etc. My Thai GF dont seem to understand about serviced apartments yet when I say try to locate good deals. But will be trained in the subject soon when I arrive in later Aug. Wicked Willie stayed at the Royal Ambassador with good deals there also. 1500 baht for 1 bed 50 sq m. I have tried online sites like http://www.thailandservicedapartments.com but no much apt staff getting back to me in emails. I gotta say this though the GP staff gets deals quick and books em danno fast.

Stray Gypsy, Nope, have not made any decisions yet but am seriously considering switching out of the Grand President for greener pastures. I have been negotiating with the Omni but haven't finalized anything yet. I have been staying at the GP for several years, but I am increasingly unimpressed with the service. I had arranged to give their high speed Internet a try a few months back and they never hooked it up, I never pay the Credit Card surcharge and had a written agreement from them that I do not have to pay this yet upon my last checkout the staff still hassled me about it, I see now they want to add something like a 10% service charge over and above everything else, the room rates are increased..... As you can see I have developed quite a few issues with the GP so I think it is time for a change. The Omni looks pretty good and I have heard the rooms are actually nicer than the GP. The location is not quite as good but I can deal with a little hike up Soi 4 if that is the only major drawback with the Omni. The problem is I can't find many recent posts or comments from people who have stayed at the Omni. It used to be quite popular so I am a little concerned about why I hear so little about it anymore. "I have tried online sites like http://www.thailandservicedapartments.com but no much apt staff getting back to me in emails. " I will take a look at this link. Thanks for posting it. Thai hotel staff are typically quite bad about returning Emails. You are indeed correct about the GP, if you keep your requests short and simply they generally respond quickly. Still, I think that is not enough to keep me at the GP any more.

After two happy years in the Omni I have decided to leave. A lot of the staff seem to have changed recently and they're just not as guest friendly as they used to be. The staff have also told me that my monthly rate is to increase whereas the quality of service seems to be getting worse. I am now looking for somewhere new.

Check into any of the CentrePoints - my fave being the one on Petchaburi 15 (across from Panthip Plaza, which is why it's my fave) Harry <-- 17 days and counting

Hzink -- What't the latest on Panthip as far as availability of copied DVDs? I've been reading on the forum over the past several months about crackdowns and convoluted purchasing procedures (ordering in one location, waiting 20-40 minutes to pick-up elsewhere, concerns about undercover police, etc.). Doesn't sound like the old Panthip I use to go to!

Old news. Right after APEC finished, I went to Panthip, and it was no different than before, with vendors falling over each other to sell me 'DVD Movie'. There's some that make you wait, and some that have the goods right there. Quite easy, and right across the street from where I'm staying. Harry
