Hi good folks.
Please bear with me as a kinda novice to posting here although I have read hundreds of very interesting articles by you great people over the last month or so. Am in the middle of planning my trip to Bkk for 20 nights this December/January - yes - I know, still some time hence, but want it well organised.
Planning to stay at Emporium and wondered if there were any updated reports - think last posting was in March.
Also a few questions which might seem silly to you "know-alls" but here not been in Bkk for 4 years and that was staying @ the Shangi, in fact never made it to Sukhumvit Road yet.
Is there a good variety of shops in Emporium complex, including food/grocery outlets?
Take it the complex is connected directly to BTS via a walk-way?
Are there any grocery outlets selling U.K. brand food close by?
Do the apartments suffer from outside noise?
Is the "in house" catering of a reasonable standard/price?
Anyone care to let me use their company name to obtain corporate rates? Been told by reservations that booking for a month works out much cheaper than 20 nights @ daily rate.

Thanks in advance and please "go easy" on a newbie - never know when I might be able to buy you a drink, or update info during/after my visit.
Any info will be much appreciated.

Is there a good variety of shops in Emporium complex, including food/grocery outlets?

Most upscale grocery store in Bangkok, with many prepared foods to go. Many shops, restaurants and food courts in Emporium. You will not be disappointed.

Take it the complex is connected directly to BTS via a walk-way?

Yes, on floor 2F of the shopping mall.

Are there any grocery outlets selling U.K. brand food close by?

As mentioned, the grocery store in the shopping mall is the most upscale in Bangkok, with many imported items. There is also a grocery store across Sukhimvit from the Emporium, which also has imported items.

Do the apartments suffer from outside noise?

The apartments are back off Sukhimvit road a ways, and I doubt there is any noise even on the lower floors.

Is the "in house" catering of a reasonable standard/price?

Don't know, but there are so many reasonably priced options in the mall, that this should not be an issue.

Anyone care to let me use their company name to obtain corporate rates? Been told by reservations that booking for a month works out much cheaper than 20 nights @ daily rate.

The monthly rates are quoted on their website.

I was in BKK last week. Loved the Emporium Dept and it's food court ( on the top floor ). Many stunners there at all time of the day. Checked out the Emporium Suite, loved the location ( BTS stations, close proximity to soi 33 and Orbits, great seafood restaurant on soi 24 and 26....etc ) Nice lobby and very good ambience but was not so impressed by the rooms ( I asked the manager to show me a few rooms to compare ). Did not stay there ( stayed at the President Park S.A. on the same soi ) so could not tell you their services. I would assume they to be first class. On the more expensive side of the BKK Serviced Apt. scene. But if you like the Emporium Dept. Store scene, you are in for a treat.

I guess they cost as much as the grils walking around in there. I like the place and there is always nice half hookers there. They dont charge u money first time they take it when you get divorce.

Many thanks to the above three members for their informative advice.
Perhaps I jumped in "feet first" by saying I wished to stay @ Emporium Suites, it was mainly because it seemed so convenient to everything in the area.
This visit to Bkk for approx 20 nights is a "present" to myself and as such, cost is not a major issue. I do know that I would prefer to stay @ an apartment in preference to an hotel and I am looking for the over all best available in the Sukhumvit area. It seems the President Solitaire is also getting very good reports, so, forgetting the slightly "off" Sukhumvit location, would this be a better choice than the Emporium. Especially regarding the facalities "inroom" etc. Or perhaps there are other 4/5 star apartments I have yet to find out about? As I said, on this forth coming visit "cost" is not an important factor.
Suggestions, as always will be gratefully received.

If cost is not a factor, then I would stay at the Emporium. The Solitaire may be newer, has a bigger TV, but the Emporium is more than nice enough and has excellent facilities, and I doubt that watching TV is your number one activity on a 20 day trip.

There simply is no substitute for the location of the Emporium, both for the shopping mall, and the fact it is connected to the BTS. If cost is a factor, then maybe the Solitaire is a good choice, but otherwise the Emporium would be my choice.

When I have stayed at the President Park (down Soi 24) or the Admiral Suites (Soi 22), every single day that I stayed in Bangkok I went to the Emporium for one reason or another.

Shoresideguy:

Read through this thread started by ABC on "Service Apartments / Suite: Centre Point, Solitare, Emporium"

http://bkkx.com/cgi-bin/forum/topic.cgi?forum=7&topic=780&start=0

It will answer some of your questions. It also has links to all three websites and you can take a look at what the apartments look like.

I have been thinking about staying at a serviced apartment and have been researching on the subject as well.

I have stayed only in the S.A.'s on my last two trips to BKK. My recommendation to you would be to try both the Emporium and Solitaire and then let us know what you think of both. I stayed at the Solitaire so I can vouch for the rooms ( but ugly lobby ), and I do think the rooms at Solitaire are better than Emporium. But Emporium has the location and the amenities that Solitaire cannot compete. I also stayed at President Park and Grand President. And also spent a lot of time in the Emporium for shopping and food. I think probably the best location for S.A.s in the Sukhmvit area. But if room layout and deco is important to you, then I think Solitaire has the edge. Try both and then tell us what you think.

I have stayed at Solitaire but only seen pictures of Emporium's rooms and here's my take based on that:

The rooms at Emporium seem to be designed with a slightly minimalist slant, they are stark, simple, with clean lines and quite stylish. Great, if you like that sort of stuff. (It was just a few pictures, so this might be quite a generalisation.)

Solitaire on the other hand has a more warm and cozy feel to it. The flooring is all parquet which beats having cold marble below your feet. The furnishings are warm and homely and of a high quality. And that tv certainly makes it all worth it. It is more like a stately residence than nouveau chic (which, in my view, is what Emporium projects).

Having walked past the Emporium, I got the feeling that it is a very overt and flashy sort of place, not least because of its location. It makes a very strong statement.

Solitaire is more for the gentleman who values luxury, but does not have it thrust in his face. It seems like the place that would suit people who don't really care about making a statement.

thanks all for the up dated posts - very informative and helpful. I very much appreciate the help all you fellow members have given me and hope in the future I can be of assistance to you all also.
Seems as if it has come down to a choice of two - Soitaire or Emporium.
Me thinks the Emporium wins because of the facilities available in the Emporium "complex" - but on the other hand, the Solitaire seems to have it as far as the style/fittings of the apartments are concerned. Suppose not really a huge problem, cos am not out to impress anyone except myself, but I do like luxury and comfort on a good, not grand scale. 42" t.v. is of no importance to me, cos except for catching up on world news I shan't be watching it. Again, cost is not a major factor but location is - as to not having to walk too far in the "mid-day sun".
So good folks - hands up for Solitaire or Emporium??
Have thousands more questions regarding Bkk in general, but as a "newbie" I am feeling my way and don't wish to trample on anyones toes, so shall bide my time and feel my way - so to speak.
Thanks all for being so helpful and suffering my "infancy"
