If an Eden Club is to be available in another town I think its like-- " we got a Eden Club in Phuket too".Brand equity goes down somewhere. After all Eden is not a KFC or Mac D. I love Bkk and I love to have my takeways from Eden. My favourite ladies might move too. I know I am being selfish. So Eden should remain in Bkk Cheers

One thing I would want to understand more about is why there is only Christins in the whole of Phuket. Is it because others have tried and failed, is it due to 'local' influence (mafia, police etc) or is it just that nobody ever thought of it (unlikely). To me common business sense says theres one place, it's crap and its still going strong, if I opened a better place offering better services surely I would clean up ? so why has nobody already done this ? I would want to be happy with the answer to that before worrying about high or low seasons. By the way Papa, your idea of 1+1 for 2,500 is a great idea for Bangkok, you would be competing with the better known oilies offering services only found at Tulip (generally speaking in terms of availability, I understand there is the odd girl here and there at other oilies that will perform). A fixed price no tip structure with guaranteed services makes for a great money printing machine. Perhaps that could be your 2nd Eden operation in Bangkok ?

There is plenty of "one on one" availability under 2500 Baht all included on the streets of Patong and I'm talking all night. I don't think it is a brilliant idea neither on both formulas to add yet another establishment.

Marc- You have be very careful about opening an establishment in Pattaya. It's a very difficult market to crack. Most of the visitors to Phuket are couples, families and backpackers who are there for beach vacations. They aren't a natural customer base for an Eden-style operation. Even the "sex tourist" males who go to Phuket want to "get away" from the Bangkok and Pattaya scenes. They usually want a long-time girl-friend experience and aren't very interested in a series of short-time adventures. That's why the scene in Phuket is totally dominated by beer bars and free-lance pick-up places. It helps keep alive these guys' illusions that they are "meeting" girls and aren't like the hard-core punters in Bangkok and Pattaya. Bruce told me he estimated that 60% to 70% of Eden's customers were resident expats in Bangkok or regularly returning businessmen to Thailand. A lot of the attraction of Eden for your customer base (myself included) is that we save a lot of time by going to Eden. But the overwhelming majority of men who visit Phuket are there on vacation only. They have nothing else to do but enjoy the beach and hunt girls. They like spending hours and hours in beer bars drinking and playing Connect Four or the dice game. The farang guys who operate beer bars, restaurants, guest houses, etc. in Phuket aren't very keen on full service P4P operations. They are very aware that it's the family trade that fuels the tourist economy in Phuket and don't want the hard-core mongers scaring families away. That's why you find so few MPs and gog go bars in Patong. Others have written about the seasonal effect and I agree entirely. Phuket is sleepy six months a year and more or less dead in the three summer months. All-in-all, Phuket would be a very hostile environment for an Eden-type establishment. Evil

I'm surprised by some comments here about Phuket don't they know what they are talking about or ever visit Phuket ? I’m living now about 19 years in Phuket and have a few relative big company’s in the tourist industry here, So I hope that I know what I’m talking about. I would welcome a Eden "Phuket" Club in Patong. Yes a lot of Phuket tourists have a regular girls but don't forget the rest of the people. Besides this I think that Phuket has the most expacts living in whole Thailand and there is not much difference any more between low and high season. I own a few hotels in Patong and the difference is maybe 10 % in hotel guest. Also most of the tourists are not ignorant or otherwise out of this world but most of them just don't like to hassle of Bangkok or Pattaya. ( me included )

I agree merijn - anyone would think the island is a ghost town in low season - that is certainly not the case and Patong is busy all year round. Just check the official figures for passenger arrival numbers at PHKT - getting higher each year.

What part of holding that across-the-board decrease in hotel vacancy to 10% is achieved only by cutting room rates to around 40% during the low-season and by airlines offering package holiday deals for almost less than the cost of airfares alone? Package tourists are mostly couples and families which is surely not Eden’s target group. The hassle of Bangkok or Pattaya? Viewed as a tourist I’d say “Hassle” should be Phuket’s middle name. From the painfully slow immigration queues inside the airport, to the pitifully ill resourced meter taxi rank outside the airport getting to your hotel in Patong is reaching the Everest summit compared to getting to it in Bangkok or Pattaya. Take a shared-van and end up being shanghaied to their sales office, selling tours and accommodation en route. Once at the hotel movement around is then via the red tuk-tuk mafia at a rate of about 1 baht a metre. Walk anywhere in Patong and you get hassle from time-share sellers, block your way tailors and heaps of other touts – same same as other resorts but worse. Phuket has a lot going for it but “hassle free” it ain’t. As to the arrivals increasing in the last few years, well sure but remember that prior to the Asian Tsunami, there was chicken flu, SARS and the terrorist attacks – I travelled to Thailand through all these periods – now THAT was what a real “ghost town” can be – and a possible recurrence of some kind of similar downturn (business wise) is probably worth considering given the track record of the last 10 years. (eg: 1-2-Go is gone and other airfares are skyrocketing - the US peso is set to fall further - how hard and for how long will these two items alone hit the disposable income the wall-to-wall expats "retired" to Phuket) Glad this is all Marc’s headache and not mine. Enjoy.
