I am thinking of doing a side trip to Batam next week instead of going to Pattaya again.

Let me preface this by saying I haven't been to Batam for a couple or more years. There is certainly an interesting underside & there use to be "Day club's" with ST rooms. Most of these are located in an area of the main town Nagoya. Also you have to be careful at Night in Nagoya, its not Sukhumvit!

Its probably a lot safer than New York's Darker side but the liberties many take in Bangkok late at night should not be taken in Indonesia. There is no Tourist Police & a Foreigner is often considered a easy target by a small percentage (but bigger than in Thailand) of the locals.
Being blind drunk and obnoxious in Indonesia is not wise!
