I have seen them as low as 2 Singapore Cents (half a Baht) each way, taxes, Fuel Surcharges etc come to about $35-45 Sing each way excluding the Thai Departure tax. Normally the Discount advance ticket price is more like $39.00 Sing.

Singapore 'more costly than New York'

Singapore - Moscow is the most expensive city for expatriates, but soaring rents in Singapore have pushed the city- state up three notches to 14th in an annual global survey of the cost of living for expatriates, a published study said on Tuesday.
The cost of living in Singapore is now ahead of New York City and Beijing, the survey by Mercer Human Resource said.
Moscow emerged as the most expensive city for expatriates for the second year in a row, ahead of London and Seoul, Tokyo and Hong Kong, according to the findings published in The Straits Times.
The rise in Singapore's ranking from 17th place has triggered concerns among human resource consultants about the cost of hiring foreigners.
The rent for an upmarket two-bedroom unfurnished apartment now costs 2,946 US dollars a month in Singapore, compared with 7,038 US dollars in Hong Kong.
Expatriates have been hit hard in Singapore with rentals rising 25 per cent to 35 per cent in the last 12 months.
Mercer Human Resource consulting director Fermin Diez told the newspaper some of his multinational clients are concerned that the rise in housing costs will affect bottom lines.

THE by-product of a long-running economic boom has inevitably materialised.

For the fourth straight year, a comprehensive survey shows Singapore scaling the ladder of expensive cities, raising concerns about whether rising costs will start to put off businesses and foreign talent.

On a global scale, the Republic has overtaken New York to become the 14th most expensive city, up from 17th last year. Asia-wide, Singapore moved up a notch to fifth place behind Osaka, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Seoul.

Pushing the island up the rungs were housing rental hikes, higher transport costs and costlier groceries, said Mercer Human Resource Consulting, which yesterday released the annual Worldwide Cost of Living Survey of 143 cities.

The results are of interest to multinational companies and governments, which buy the reports to determine compensation allowances for their expatriate staff.

hi everybody,
i will be in singapore mid, till end of august and staying at the holiday inn "atrium" (i have to stay there as our office is right around the corner)
So now I hope u could give me some tips what to do there at night. I guess as my collegues are with me my only chance would be to get an outcall to my hotel room at night. What would u suggest for that or is that at all possible in Singapore?
Or maybe leaving by taxi to some place when the others went to their rooms?
Any idea is apreciated..... and have fun with making fun of me beeing under supervision of my friends there!

If you don't mind fishbowl style, go to gelang. 80 sing dollars. There are probably 30-40 places. There are also 100's of girls on streets. It is a little seedy but there are nice ladies to be found if you search.

Be damn sure that if you approach a girl on the street that she is a freelancer. Most of the street girls are from China, speak little English, and usually work the coffeeshops in Gelang.
If you approach a regular girl on the street and make a lewd suggestion she can report you for 'offending her modesty'.
This is a serious offense in Singapore and can result in jail time.
Stick to the redlight houses in Geyleng or the bars in OT unless you have a local to guide you.
For beer I may suggest Brewerks on Clarke Quay. It is a microbrewery and restaurant owned by a American. There is also a Hooters Sports Bar and a lot of upscale discos on Clarke Quay. Who knows, maybe you and your mates might get lucky...
