As Orchard Road is the 'Ginza' of Singapore there are too many to list. For western food on the high end there is Lawry's and Stewart Andersons. On the medium end Dan Ryans. In the basement of the Paragon there are several good Asian restaurants. Of course there are also the run of the mill, i.e. Swensens etc. If you really want good restaurants I would suggest taking the MRT to Clarke Quay. Once there either walk up the river to Riverside Point (Brewerks, Jumbo Seafood, Cafe Iguana, Wine Garage) and the Clakre Quay Entertainment Center (Hooters and several midrange restaurants) or go down river to Boat Qauy where there are several good seafood restaurants (Forum Seafood is good and reasonable). If you do go to Boat Quay, take a walk to Circular Drive (one block up from the river) and check out some of the clubs and bars (do not miss Molly McGuires). Have Fun...

Not an expert on food in Singapore, but for super jumbo Sri Lankan black pepper crabs, I like Long Beach seafood restaraunt at East Coast next to Tennis Center. Taxi drivers know where this place is. Its about a 20 minute ride. Best to go on an offnight or make reservation as place gets very busy. There can be a wait to get seated or then to get served. The Sri Lankan crabs are big, about 1 kg. I order one per person or mix half/half with same super jumbo Sri Lankan cooked in chili sauce and served with fried buns. I don't let waitstaff bargain down order (suggest smaller or less crabs). My TGF likes the BP crabs. Not a fancy or expensive place. I go there once a trip even though on expenses.

One of my friends took me to Long Beach a few weeks ago for my birthday and IMHO the service has really gone downhill in the last few months and the food was mediocare at best. Comparing prices, avoid the taxi ride and go Jumbo Seafood at Clarke Quay or their newer location just down river from North Bridge Street and get much better seafood at a much better price. FYI -- The entire East Coast Park area is scheduled for shutdown and renovation this year so expect many of the restrauants (Except the East Coast (Chengi) Seafood Center which was just renovated) to be torn down and rebuilt into a more tourist friendly area -- much to the regret of the residents who went to East Coast to get away from the tourists...
