You can use your Thai SIM, you may have to go to the AIS office and change plans for international use and it will cost you at 45b/min (even when you receive a call).
You can buy a PI SIM at the airport, it is about PhP300. If you go to the "MBK" type stalls in the shopping areas (Green Hills), they will charge you PhP100. If you buy in town at the 7-11 or MiniStop, it is PhP55. The carriers are "Smart" or "Globe", no difference (I use Smart). The top-up cards are called "Load" cards. SMS is referred to as "txt". The PhP 500 & 300 load cards come with 35/85 free txts (or something like that). If you run out of txts (and you will, the way the girls txt), they cost PhP1 each to send. A local call is PhP6/min, so you can see what texting is the way to go.
For Emporium style shopping, Greenbelt 3 & 5 is the place to be. For the NEP layout, go to EDSA Entertainment complex. For the Soi Cowboy layout, check out P.Burgoss. For the Thermae feel, LA Cafe is the place to be. It will be a different experience than in LOS but good to get a feel.
You will get the feeling you are being ripped off at every turn (which you will be). Outside Makati, you will feel unsafe walking in the streets at night (which you will be). You will feel that taxi drivers are @ssholes (which they are) and you will constantly get ripped off over price and these are the most directionless taxi drivers in the world.
If I have the choice of BKK or Manila, I would take BKK 10/10. Now, Angeles, thats a different story...

Unless you need to call people in Thailand, just don't use your Thai SIM. Get a cheap PI sim, as others have said.
Calling in-network is cheaper. Most girls have Smart, and will beg you to pass them a load, which as fun as it sounds, is more about the credit than your pants. If you don't feel like being overly generous wtih your load, get Globe. it will cost you a little bit more (can't remember exactly how much) to txt a girl on Smart, but it ends up cheaper than passing load all the time.
