A brief review of some of the “night life” area of Makati, Manila, Philippines.
A general background on myself.
I am 66 years of age, fat, bald, and not too much money to throw about and seemingly one of the despised type of “mongers” by many of the board writers.
Having said that I am a fairly constant companion of one of the nicest of the Voodoo dancers.
Rating her legs alone I would venture to suggest that she has the best in Voodoo, not necessarily the longest but the shapeliest. Small statue and approximately 33 years of age.
For this I pay the going rates of 1500 ST is her company to a pool hall, meal and then a session at a ST hotel and 2000 LT till late the next day, I need the extra time to reload.. So that gives you guys an idea if I am just the current “ATM”
OK, have just returned from Makati.
An area similar to SC but more spread out, over about three blocks.
Male touts outside and ladies on show once the curtains are parted from the street.
The girls dancing are fully dressed in the type of gowns worn by hostesses in Soi 33.
On entering you are accosted by one usually two ladies and escorted to a table/couch or similar of your choice.
LD’s are immediately asked for-now the tricky bit, a beer, San Miguel is reasonable at about 84 Baht but the LD’s, served in “shot glass” containers are 230 Baht each. After downing the first one and demanding another one, one of the girls (age about 20-25 and as firm and full figured as any Thai go-go dancer has done a “lapdance” and bared her breasts for closer inspection.
As I was a bit slow in replacing the LD her panties came off and the “lapdance” became serious, I was not complaining.
After the next LD both her and her companion (who had also removed her panties) had suggested that we all move to a back room where BBBJ and full service would be available. Cost including room hire and full service would be 2300 Baht to each girl.
Departed, after further checking the “lap dancer’s” obviously juicy equipment with kisses to all areas. This all basically, within viewing area of the dance floor and adjoining couches and tables.
Visited another two clubs but asked the “touts” to tell the girls I wanted “one” only and I would choose. They took me inside and gave the orders but I was accosted by at least two and departed. Maybe because of the early hour, about 10.30pm. Makati is quite civilized. Bar closing time is after 5.00am towards 6.00am.
Visited my fourth Club. Again the dancers were very conservatively dressed, though like Pretty Woman at NP, I discovered that there was no underwear.
One young lady attached herself and I was not adverse to buying here a LD. 23 years tall by Thai standards, great figure and happy to show it was “real”. English is spoken by all working girls.
Again the quote, 3000 Peso (2300 Baht), including BF, hire of room and no time limit a guarantee of BBBJ, full service and anything else I could think of (or manage). This offer was too good to refuse.
After one and a half hours I left fully satisfied and no request for and additional tip, although one was given. I met her two days later when she had the day off and we did the BKK GFE. Returning to my hotel and only asking for 1000 Peso (770 Baht) for the night.
My impressions:
not cheap except when an “outside” deal can be arranged;
girls are better presented than in BKK;
english is the spoken and very well so no ambiguities to be solved later;
girls are more pushy for LD’s, which are expensive;
you can definitely “check” the merchandise before leaving the establishment.
I would imagine that the younger guys would have a great time if they did not have the BKK “blinders” on.

Mahalo to the bro who took us under his wing and gave us the grand tour of Manila the 1st night out. Got to see pretty much everything on my list in one night.
Summary
The most prevalent aspect of Manila is the poverty. You cannot escape it. It is not pushed off to a distance, as in BKK. It is in your face, wherever you go, even in Makati, the “Wall Street of Manila”. A lower standard of living, 5-year old kids press their faces upon the taxi window begging for pesos. Some will hold on a bit as the taxi drives away. With this poverty comes a greater sense of danger. The main road was blocked on the way to the hotel. The taxi driver requested we lock the van’s sliding door, which he could not reach. Then we took a detour into the squatter’s area.
The air and water are cleaner, or so it seems. Depending on which way the wind blows, usually no visible air pollution or fog. There is supposed to be areas for rich people, where all the houses are nice. I didn’t see any in the many taxi rides we took. Brand new condos were going for about $24,000 USD via pamphlets in the Mega Mall. Not very many police visible, but each business had it’s own guards, some of them armed.
The go-gos are smaller, but on average Filipino girls are prettier than Thai girls (flame on!). They also provide a more intense GFE, their superior English helping out. Still, a few bargirls speak very little. The high end prices are almost the same, with Makati being slightly more expensive than BKK (about 3000 PHP ST, 6000 PHP LT). The KTV format with stage and fishbowl is popular. The go-go bars are at EDSA International Entertainment Complex diagonally across from the Heritage Hotel, and P. Burgos Street in Makati. Some of the better KTV formats are Stardust (1182 Quezon Avenue), Miss Universal (2374 F. B. Harrison, Pasay City), and Pegasus (Quezon Avenue corner Scout Chuatuco Street, Quezon City). The bars close at 4-5 am.
Cash is better than traveler’s check. Checks get about 1 PHP less per $1 USD, opposite of BKK, and are much harder to exchange. You need both a passport and the separate receipts with serial numbers. Two of 3 banks within walking distance of Oxford Suites would not cash traveler’s checks, but China Bank gave me a good rate.
The taxi drivers are insane! They drive much worse than their BKK counterparts but still manage not to hit anything. Unfortunately, the only “safe” way to get around is by taxi. The skytrains are old, and the stations rumored to have thugs hanging out (can anyone confirm this?). The jeepneys have “snatchers” (as a girl put it), who sit down beside you and stick a knife in your side, asking for your wallet. Who knows about the subways, and forget about the motorbikes or motorized tricycles, which number much less than in BKK. The trip from the airport to Oxford Suites on P. Burgos Street was 440 PHP, price set at the airport taxi counter, no bargaining. The metered price on the way back was about 100 - 200 PHP. Except at the Airport, never take a taxi that is waiting at the curbside - always flag one down from the street and make sure he turns his meter on. This was much less of a problem than in BKK.
Oxford Suites (Durban St. cnr P. Burgos St., Makati) is highly recommended for hobbyists. Girl friendly, about $43 USD per night for the basic, and right in the middle of the action on P. Burgos Street. Go-go bars, banks, money changers, 7-11, internet cafés, Laundromat, restaurants all within 1 block of front door. Heritage Hotel seems to be a viable alternative if you’d rather be closer to the EDSA go-go bars, but it seems no small feat to cross EDSA highway, especially at night. Did I miss a pedestrian overpass?
Manila has casinos! This is great since there is nothing else much to do in the day. The casinos are smaller than Downtown Vegas, some don’t have any slot machines, for example. The odds favor the house more than in Vegas (surprise!). Usually only 1 crap table, single odds, lower hard ways odds, etc. Beware of the game Pontoon! What looks too good to be true IS too good to be true. Found only 1 blackjack table in 3 casinos, at the Heritage Hotel.
The shopping isn’t that great (or we just didn’t know where to go). For all practical purposes, there is no mass software pirating business that is right out in the open like Panthip or Fortune IT Mall. I saw only 1 table out in the street near my hotel. The businesses seem to be either legal and in the malls or back-alley, where you don’t want to go.
Because of the higher quality GFE, I was going to give MNL the nod over BKK, with BKK being the viable alternative. However, as I write this I recall someone at the bar last night mentioning that I was lucky I narrowly missed a major protest on EDSA highway. I checked the news, and sure enough, I was lucky. So I guess it’s a wash. I’d feel safe going to BKK by myself, but not MNL.

Bars
There is less structure to the bar prices in Manila. The bar fine at EDSA go-gos is 1000 PHP, for P. Burgos Street it’s 2000 PHP. The tip to the girls brings the total price to ~3000 PHP ST, 5000-7000 LT, depending on the bar fine. Some places allow you to reduce the bar fine by the money you spend on girls’ drinks, which are usually about 300 PHP. A customer’s beer is about 130 PHP.
P. Burgos Street
These go-go bars, maybe about 12 of them, are within walking distance from each other along or near P. Burgos Street, Makati. Flamingos (Makati Ave., cor. P. Burgos St., Makati City) is by far the best one in the area. Many young, petite girls and great dancers. Some of them are part of a choreographed dance routine featured on Fridays at 11 pm, and practice their routines when the right song plays. This provides for a sexy, semi-choreographed dance routine more interesting than the individual gyrations of the girls in Thai go-gos. The barfine is 1900 PHP, and girls’ drinks are deducted from the bar fine. The tip to the girl usually rounds it out to 6000 PHP LT. You can always bargain for less.
Bandidos was a distant 2nd of the go-gos. There were starting up a dance routine of their own.
Everywhere else we stuck our heads in at around 8-9 pm only had a few girls on stage. Mogambo was a little strange as the girls were just sitting on or behind the bar playing table games (dice, etc.). There was no stage. They offer to play you a game, but the penalty for losing is that you buy them a drink at the usual 300 PHP. My friend lost 3 times in connect-4 and Jenga. The girl offered to take off her clothes if she lost, but she did not lose.
Jools has a colorful costumed cabaret show that goes for about ½ - ¾ hr. The girls in Jools are notably older than in the other bars, with 3 sets of dresses - night gowns, evening gowns, and dance costumes. Not sure what the dress signified, but at least some of the Jools girls won’t go out with you (cherry girls). The cabaret dancers were suspiciously large - not fat, just big bodied. The ladyboy alarms went off all over. I looked for the adam’s apple. Some wore scarfs to cover their necks.
EDSA International Entertainment Complex
Now this is what I pictured when I heard the name Nana Entertainment PLAZA! This is a modern, enclosed, air conditioned, glass door mall with about 8 go-go bars, some upstairs. It is generally agreed that Firehouse is the best, but unlike Burgos Street, Pit Stop and Bullets & Arrows are a close 2nd and 3rd. The bar fine here is only 1000 PHP. The rest is up to you and the girl. You don’t need a field report on this place, because everything is so close you can just stick your head in every bar. Perhaps too close, in fact. If you GFE a girl in one of these bars, she can have spies sit outside her bar and she can tell you what bargirl you bar fined in EDSA by name the next day. So choose wisely.
Miss Universal (2374 F.B. Harrison cor. Libertad St., Pasay City)
It’s only about 4 blocks away from EDSA Complex, but the walk down the dark back road at night is not worth the risk. Take a taxi for only 40 PHP. KTV format - stage with fishbowl - 2 fishbowls, in fact. The general observation that bars in MNL are smaller than bars in BKK does not apply to Miss Universal. It’s huge! It felt like tables were spread out over half a football field. I could not make out faces at the other end of the bar in the dark. The 2 fishbowls are for girls that don’t go out, and those that do. The fishbowls have a chauvinistic viewing stripe of only about 6 inches that lets you stare at the girls all you want while they can see only your eyes and part of your face looking at them. Periodically, one or more girls will present themselves on stage, some of them totally nude except for heels. Most of them look terrified, and make a mad dash for the stage exit at the end of every song. Barfine is 6000 PHP all inclusive (LT I assume).
Stardust (1182 Quezon Ave, Quezon City)
Out near Pegasus, I think. This was about as far as I wanted to travel away from Oxford Suites. Similar to Miss Universal, but smaller, it was still pretty big. Fishbowl with the viewing stripe, and girls presenting themselves on stage, some nude. Price here was 7000 PHP, all inclusive.
Pegasus (Quezon Ave cor. Scout Chuatuco St., Quezon City)
Saving the best for last, the mighty Pegasus, similar to what Poseidon is to BKK, with more emphasis on the runway show than on the massage. On the ground level is the stage and models fishbowl. The models wear long, elegant evening dresses, and put on a sexy, choreographed runway show. They are prettier than the 3rd floor models at Poseidon. There is a minimum 400 PHP per person charge to sit in the stage area. Models will sit with you for a time-in fee of 1200-1500 PHP (depending on their rank), plus ladies drinks at 300 PHP (?). Whatever goes on in the back rooms are negotiated with the girl. This seemed a little too upscale for me. I felt like I was going to spend a lot of money for nothing, just like back home. Unknown to many, there is a massage pallor in the basement, with a separate fishbowl. Just find the stairs going down.
L.A. Café
This is something I wish I did more of. After playing at the Hyatt Hotel Casino, I vaguely remember L.A. Café being on the map within walking distance of the Hyatt. We asked the doorman, and he directed us to L.A. Café. It was about 4 blocks away, and the walk during midafternoon down a back road seemed ok, but perhaps not the smartest move. We were going to eat lunch there and get a look - the ‘ol 2-birds with one stone deal. The place was smaller than I expected. As soon as we walked in about 2 pm I think, we were approached by a few girls. The one I was with was young and pretty, and I figured better her than someone else, so I talked to her. A fat girl approached my friend, and he couldn’t shake her. He kept telling her we were going to eat. We ordered, but the girls stayed with us. I wondered if they were going to leave us alone while we were eating. When the food came, the girls left, and the food was good. My girl came back after I was done, and I asked her how much? She looked puzzled and turned to her friend, a few words of Filipino exchanged, and she says 2000 Pesos - 500 for her friend, and 1500 for her. This girl was young and cute, comparable to any go-go girl, but she was not good in bed, so I did not tip her. I got her for a grand total of about $40 USD. So if someone says they can get it in Manila for $30, it’s true but has to be put into context.

A couple of minor points on Manila, I have been there 3 times in the past 4 months (latest 2 weeks back) and in probability 6 or 7 times in the 12 months. No expert but a bit of recent experiance.
P Burgos barfines vary from a low of 1900 (Banditos I think) to 3000 at Jools and the more upmarket places. A run down place like Rogues is probably less! Some of the places let you trade Barfines for Ladies Drinks as BH stated, also in the higher Barfine places a percentage of the Barfine goes to the Lady (usually a third), they don't usually mention this!!! Cannot think why?
Jools is interesting but not cheap, wide assortment of Ladies, 3 types:- the barfinable Bar Girls who may sort of dance but are usually in evening gowns. The older ones are there because they are very easy & interesting to talk to (an important part of working in Jools which is NOT a Barfine driven Bar). Many local (both Fillipna Men and Expats) business men come to Jools as a local Bar to bring clients too. The show is very good, but is NOT a sex show like say Angelwhitch! It is more a small scale Las Vegas type production.
The second type are Girls who want to be Jools Dancers, usually young, paid a small wage but have to do a lot of real Dancing on stage as the lead up to the main Dancers. Some are Barfinable, but as I understand it, it is up to them!
The third type are employed as Dancers and are reasonably well paid, they do Dancing as a living & are used at event openings, television commercials etc! The real show is on ever hour from 8 or 9pm for 15 minutes till 2am. As far as I know no Tranny's but there is a guy who dancers and the Choreographer is probably gay (then again how many are not?) These are not Barfiable but if you get to know one well enough she may accompany you! These girls work hard, they train 4 or 5 hours every day and most are not the skinny girls most like but I tell you this from experience, they are fit & lots of fun!!!
I hope this helps, Manila is a great place, probably the closest in operation to Bangkok but it is different!

(continued). Except at Miss Universal, most of the girls don’t wear numbers. They have “normal” names like Christie and Abegail. As noted elsewhere on this board, the girls are clingers. My biggest problem was how to delicately dismiss them since I wanted a different girl each night. The girls get the hint, but I ended up with one of the girls twice. I got the impression that my hotel room was a nicer place to stay than whatever room they were going back to.
Unlike BKK, it is a setback to not speak English. This is because so many girls do, it’s easy to find one you like that does. So if she doesn’t speak English, politely throw her back and get another. Many of the girls are also highly educated by BKK standards. Several years college is not uncommon. It’s not clear why there is a difference in education level (anyone know?)
MNL girls give a better virtual reality GFE. My guess is they just want to get out of this shithole, and they will sell their affection, their loyalty, their hand in marriage to get out of here.
Cell phone text messaging is the preferred method of communication with young Filipino girls. The are fast at at, even with one thumb. Texts only cost 1 PHP per, calls cost 8 PHP (min). That’s why she may text you “Call me now.” Sim cards and load-ups are at the local 7-11.
Casinos
Since shopping wasn’t that great in MNL, casinos were the viable alternative to pass the time during the day. We tried 3 casinos - Hyatt Hotel Casino, Heritage Hotel Casino, and Casino Filipino on Grand Boulevard.
The Hyatt Hotel Casino
Spread out over 3 floors, starting on the 2nd floor. Generally a high rollers casino, your $ can handle these limits. Pontoon had limits of 500 PHP minimum bets ($10). Slot machines were all video (vice mechanical) type. Tables emphasized baccarat. More slot machines and tables on the 3rd floor, and high rollers tables on the 4th floor. I asked the manager about Pontoon, which appeared similar to blackjack. “Oh, similar to blackjack, but with many more options. Would you like to play?” I tried some, and won 4000 PHP. H17, hard 21 beats dealer 21, resplit 3 max, you can double and hit again, doubling your bet once more (called buying bets) up to 2 more times, ESR, and you can surrender on any number of cards (even after hitting). There are also special prizes for hands like 6-7-8 same suit. Too good to be true, I thought.
Heritage Casino
The Heritage Casino did not have any slot machines - all tables. 1 crap table and 1 blackjack table open at 1 pm. Several Pontoon tables open at 1 pm also, but again more baccarat tables than anything else. The Brian Viloria fight was on, and I felt like making a killing at Pontoon. As the 1st customer to the table, I took 3rd base - my base. From the start, we were getting killed left and right. The dealer would consistently show 4’s and 6’s and make hands. There were long strings were the dealer would just not bust! During a shuffle, I decided to confirm the number of decks. “6-deck?” I replied. “8-dek notens”, came back in a strong Filipino accent. What did he say? “NO TENS?!” That right! I haven’t seen any 10’s. At 8-deck, the count starts out at -32! Without doing the math, you can tell this is a rip off! No wonder other customers gave me questionable glares when I stood on 12 vs a 6.
Casino Filipino
The one near the Grand Boulevard Hotel. This is the best of the 3 casinos. Good number of slot machines, including mechanical and poker machines. Some unique table games, many baccarat tables, and some Pontoon tables. Crap table wasn’t open during the day. Also had a Pai Gow table, which was pretty good (only 5% commission).

But more amazing was the -32 count for the BJ. You basically do not have a chance. I thought Eight decks with 8 buried cards in LV was bad. What a shock it must have been for you when you never won a double down. I would not know how to approach such a game. I guess keep hitting till you hit at least 18.
I play the Hi-op II system for those card tracking BJ players out there.

Let me take my BKK blinders off to type this...
It has been about 6 months since my trip to Manila, and looking back on it now I realize why BKK is such a better place for myself.
The bottom line is that Manila has no decent night life scene. There is no vast amount of good night clubs like BKK has. Sure Manila has go-go bars, and go-go girls, but If BKK only had NEP and SC, It would get very old fast. There is such a greater variety of places to go in BKK for all sorts of night life. Manila is limited to say the least. The Hard Rock Cafe is not night life.
As far girls go, IMHO they don't compare to TGs by a long shot. Most PI girls seem to have this GUNT thing (Combo GUT and c***) going on that just seems to grow with age. Since when are loyal and clingy girls a good thing if you are just f***ing them?
Ok, time to put my BKK blinders back on....
