yeah, I had to 'rip off' your "magnificent" line. couldn't think up that original literary piece on my own. : ) overall, your posts are excellent...you just dropped off a bit on this issue of partying in the Philippines. Not sure why, given your experience in the PI and TH. I'm sure you're right and that you are blessed with the ability to get free sex whenever you like, whether in PI or TH. For the average single guy this isn't all that hard, anyway, just like any big city.
trip between makati and malate: depends on what area of makati you're driving from. it can be done quite fast, depending on the hour, from say makati ave and buendia...as you just take buendia to roxas. after midnight, this can take as little as 9 minutes. but, traffic during rush hour (and if there is a flood along buendia) can push this to about 25-50 minutes.

Been reading up on this topic for a couple of days now and my head is spinning so excuse me if I repeat something!
I am a Bangkokaholic (just back from two weeks there) but am looking at visiting Manila early next month for a mate's wedding. If I go, the hotel is the Renaissance Hotel in Makati.
1. Is it girl friendly? (I remember reading someone's post that they are all girl friendly... really??)
2. Is it far from Burgos Street?
3. I know it is in the Green Belt - can you confirm that's a good joint for the ladeez? Better than Burgos?
I have no time for going to AC (pity) so I'm looking at 4-5 days tops. The rest of the wedding party are talking about shooting off to Boracay for a few nights but I fancy chilling in Manila for that time. A good choice?
And if stay what, apart from the obvious, is there to do duirng the day? (My Thai gf says Manila is crap compared to BKK... but then she would say that!)

Green Belt Area is ok for FL's but it does not measure up to LA Cafe (FL paradise but you have to look at a lot to find jems, don't worry there is always a lot!) or P Burgos. P. Burgos is 15-30 Minutes away from Green Belt again depending on Traffic, weather etc.

your hotel is excellent! if possible, request a room facing towards the city (basically, towards quezon). if you get one on a upper level floor, you will have a great view. the room I had there for new years was tits! a total view of the city; and the windows are HUGE in that hotel (from about shin level to the ceiling). good choice. as there are numerous entrances, even if the hotel wasn't girl friendly, they'd be taxed to enforce it. you'll be fine.
as for proximity to p burgos (uh...didn't you say your thai gf was gonna be with you??) : you're geographically VERY close; but traffic between the two can suck. overall, you're close enough. not worth the trip.
across the street from your hotel is one of the best sushi restaurants in town, Sugi's. go there around 7-9pm and you'll see some of the best (richest) filipinas in town. but they're by and large untouchable for the average joe. you can also stroll around the corner, and there's several outdoor patio bars that light up after 10pm. try Havana (also called Havana club...same company as the one in malate).
what to do in mnl: shopping; some historical (wwii) sites; start a coup.

Ha ha - a coup might be the way forward! Glad to hear the hotel is 'tits'! I'm actually getting a special rate of $40 for the hotel so that's even better.
As for the gf, yes she's Thai but she flies so she won't be coming along. I'm sure I'll get over it.
Overall, it sounds like Manila is a completely different animal from BKK. As for FLs pretening they aren't FL, do they come on to you? I'd hate to mess that up by approaching a honest-to-goodness girl who is just out for a late night snifter 
Many thanks for the tips Diego. Burgos St will have to be done (I like the 'feel' of these types of bars) and a mate married to a Phils lady has also bunged me a few 'normal' bars where you can pick up ladies. All good!

If you go to P Burgos make sure to go to Jools for the show. Worth the small admission charge. Its a clean show but many of the Dancers are stunners! You can comfortably take your GF with you!

haven't taken a business trip to mnl in a little while. as such my memory is beginning to fade on the topic of burgos but hope this helps:
stay away and don't enter: hollywood; wild west; cuddles. These are very dirty.
occassionally good looking and very fun dancers at: montana; banditos. They like to drink with the customers and play some board games.
must go: ivories; flamingo; and a fairly new (and more costly) place (believe it's called billboard or billboard live) opposite from the filling station. Very friends staff and they'll treat you nicely.
