Oldtimer

Odtimer hasn't been to Manila for nigh on 30 plus years but the more CG writes about the place, the more Oldtimer wants to return.
I guess Angeles City was just the outskirts of a US navy base back the, so it didn't appeal. But in Manila, we had a hell of a time dancing all night in little slum bars way out somewhere. Oldtimer eventually picked up a honey of a girl from some club downtown and eventually took her on a skin diving expedition way down south to Mindanao and the Sulu islands.
The speak English aspect is great, because although Oldtimer has some kitchen and bedroom Thai, one cannot have a very extensive conversation with most BGs in Thailand.
The wonderful thing about young Fillippinnas is that they could boom boom right left and centre without any guilt, because on Sunday all their sins would be
wiped clean at church...at least that's how it was in the olden days.

I use to travel to BKK and of to Pattaya also, and it's not for the beach, so AC sound's OK for 3-4 days. A note: Sri Racha Zoo I know, but Koh Larn?
Do you have good suggestion for hotel in Manila and area to go? I've been in Manila for business 10 years ago for 2 days (business, no "leisure" time) and stayed at the Mandarin oriental, which might be wrong hotel, but I like good 4star in a area without to many moggers

City Garden in Manila is OK too.
EDIT: When I last stayed at Executive Plaza, it was 1600 (up from the 1500 it had been previously), but that was a while ago. So I guess it is now 1650 - still not a bad rate.

CG Action Travel quotes P1500 nightly on its website for the Executive Plaza hotel,and I think you paid P1500 on your recent trip.However,the rate since April 1 is P1650.Despite this Action Travel has not updated its website.I booked accommodation at the Executive Plaza through Action Travel a few days ago,but was informed of the increased rate only after the booking was made,and then only after I asked Action Travel to confirm the rate.Nevertheless P1650 was the best rate I could find.The next best rate was P1800.Payment is made directly to the hotel on checkin.

Went to PI for my second time last week and it was even better than my first visit. I have to say that I had such a good time there that I may no longer return to Thailand for quite some time.

darn you guys almost talked me into AC instead of phuket as side trip from bkk/pattaya- but 3 things hold me back- what does one do all day while waiting for the bars to open---i doubt there is anything close to a 5 star hotel to play around-- and worse it seems like round trip bkk/minila is about $900 for the 3 hr flight, or just slightly less than coach ny-bkk-- can you guys tell me the error in my thoughts- thanks and cheers!!

Sandontoes, if you're planning a trip that encompasses both Pattaya and AC, I would urge you to stay in Pattaya for the extra days. Nothing against AC, nothing at all against board members who live and work there, nothing whatsoever against the Philippines - I genuinely love the place, I think Filipinos are the sweetest people on earth and I'm gutted about the injustices done to them by a succession of corrupt governors. They deserve so much better.
And with the greatest respect to CG, who writes beautifully and charmingly about everywhere he goes.
But the truth is that the bars in AC open at around 9 or 10 am because there's absolutely nothing else to do there except get a blow job which, I dunno, somehow diminishes the fun.

I totally agree with all your reasons for putting off a visit to AC especially the airfare--that's the big one.
I just recently found myself in a position where the airfare to AC and BKK are the same for me so I'll be going to AC here in 3 weeks.
One option is to fly Air Asia or Tiger Airways from BKK to a go between city like Macau, Kuala Lumpur or Singapore for a night and then fly to AC the next day. You could do the reverse on the way back, but now you're gobbling up days.
I decided that after 9 trips to Thailand I can make one to the PI for the sake of variety. It's an either or decision for me.

Air Asia and Tiger have great deals but the layover in Singapore makes for a long trip.
AC is what it is - nothing to do but drink and well ya know. I am a huge fan of Phuket, as far as aesthetics, Phuket is heavan and AC is hell. As far as pootang - Filipina's are very enthusiastic - different not to say better or worse, I particularly like the spainish influence.
If there definately check out the Blue Nile at the end of Fields - be sure to go upstairs exec bar.
Good hotel for around 65usd is the Wild Orchid - nice pool and the food is digestable.
Good luck on your decesion -either way u win.
