Cebu City update October 13th-17th 2000
I did a mini report on Cebu City in January 2000 for TSM. I have done earlier postings prior to this but only concentrated on the bar scene and visiting Finland Health Center.
My January mini report concentrated on a revision of the bar scene and the exciting short-time action around Pelaez and Sanciangko Streets. Another member also has extensive reports on Cebu and the Casa scene but operates in a different manner than I so this will be new news to anyone who wishes to visit Cebu City for a first time.
The Bar Scene.
I arrived in Cebu on a Friday night and after being on the road from Angeles City since 7am and with only 3 hours sleep that morning I was quite tired when I arrived. I managed to catch one hour’s sleep before venturing out. I didn’t really want to stop at every bar in Cebu City this time around, But being Friday night you would expect some things to be happening. But also after being in Angeles City and seen the insides of most bars there more than once I wasn’t really in the mood for a continuation of the previous week. I walked everywhere the first night and as fate would have it I went to four. Firehouse (not visited last report), Lonestar, Erotica and Silver Dollar Bar. On the other two nights I went to Cougar, Mannys, and City KTV Restaurant.
THE FIREHOUSE; After having visited its Manila bar several time I expected this to be a fun bar but unlike Manila which must have 30-50 girls on stage at once they had a paltry SIX and with only one decent looking girl on stage. One thing I did notice here in Cebu as to Angeles is that the girls look whiter but it could be the stage lights. There must have been about 10-15 customers and 98% of these were European. I bought a ladies drink for one girl at 160 pesos and found out that the barfine was 600 pesos and 1500 for the girl. I passed on that offer.
THE LONESTAR BAR; Last trip I thought I found this bar to be not very forthcoming and my fault because I was late etc. This time I went there early around 10.00 p.m. and found it worse and Pathetic. I entered and sat down and watched three or four girls (one at a time) do a dance routine, dress and go back to their drinks. Last time at least a girl got a ladies drink out of me. This time they were to get none as no one even bothered to ask me this time except for a waitress whether I wanted another drink and by this time I had already decided to leave. Told her it was boring and she didn’t even answer. I’m sure these girls probably do go out but think you have to be in the in-crowd to have a look-in and besides the girls were all identical to last trip.
EROTICA BAR: This place is rather interesting. They have bikini shows here but upstairs there is a VIP area. I don’t know how bolder they get up there but they will for sure extract more money out of you up there. Worth a drink but not a ladies drink from the talent that I saw.
THE SILVER DOLLAR BAR; looked the best of the crop and the friendliest as well. I bought two different ladies drinks for two different ladies and one said 1500 pesos and the other 2000 pesos for an all inclusive barfine. I never established which it was but both are probably available depending who you are and what nationality you are. Are leaving this bar I went back to the hotel to catch up on some sleep with the idea of buying off the street later but never did, as I didn’t wake up until 5.30am.
THE COUGAR BIKINI BAR; To access this bar you need to look for Scorpio’s gay bar on Sanciangko Street then walk through the small restaurant to it. I suppose you could access it as well through the gay bar if you are GAME! I had a hustler take me here so I had to buy him a beer as well. Better at only 50pesos than 120-180 pesos for a ladies drink. We watched the bikini routines until I had consumed my beer. All right for a look but not much better than that.
MANNYS BIKINI BAR; Mannys as late as January this year was located near The Sogo hotel on Sanciangko Street but has since shifted between The Mercedes and Century Hotels in Palaez Street. This bar is not all that much better but I found a gem here. I only went in to have a final beer before looking for tonight’s conquest but the first dancer was so impressive and quite pretty I invited her for a drink. Ladies drinks are 145 pesos and local beer 50 pesos. The all-inclusive barfine here was 1500 pesos which I considered reasonable. She stayed until 8am.
CITY KTV RESTAURANT; This is located on the top level of The Century Hotel and the first night I thought it was a Karaoke lounge until my pimp told me it was a stripbar. Out of the whole lot this was probably the boldest but nothing compared to say, Bangkok. There were over 20 girls and they all went to the stage by themselves and did a dance routine. The odd girl would give you a peek at her breasts, pubic hairs etc but that was it. I had a sweet little girl sit by me for a couple of drinks. She said she was 18 but I believed more likely to be about Seventeen. She said she wasn’t available but many of these girls were for 3000 peso. I’m sure you could get them down to around 2000 peso at least.
UPSTAIRS BARS; I would stick to downstairs as these bars on Palaez and Sanciangko Streets have a reputation for lumbering you with local and ladies drinks plus an entrance fee before you can leave. I did have it happen to me in January 1998 when I had just joined TSM. It cost me about 1700 pesos to leave. But I was very green at the time.
Buying from a hustler; Many hustlers tried to befriend me but one came a true friend or I would of had to stay in Cebu another night. (Read article below) The Century Hotel is a brilliant location to operate from as many hustlers stand outside and many taxi drivers will also work for you. I can’t remember his name so I will call him H. H bought three girls up to my room. He had earlier shown me a wallet of girls and the one I chose (M) was in the album. The other two weren’t but weren’t as hot looking, but may have been a better buy. I paid 900 pesos but she later told me she only gets 300 pesos. She would only go one round, but did she have a nicest set of jugs did I see this Philippine trip. I needed the rest anyhow but would have been nice for her to stay. She gave me her number should I be in Cebu again and to cut out the hustler. She admitted to me that I was her first Caucasian customers and was a bit worried before we started about what sort of armory I had. I’m not huge so she was relieved with that.
MY LAUNDRY STORY; In Palaez Street I was looking for a laundry and a hustler told me a old man operates downstairs from the bar, Our Place so I went there and deposited 200 pesos with him (receipt 175 pesos) and left instructions I give 200 pesos but you deliver to my hotel Sunday night. No problem. On Sunday I went to the province and when I returned there was no washing. I got the hustlers on side and they knew where he lived in a rough part of town. In a taxi we go and I spent about 30 mins in the taxi waiting while my hustler asked questions. Finally he got a break through and he found the old man and my laundry returned, slightly damp but at least I was able to leave Cebu as scheduled.
CEBU IN SUMMARY; I do like this town, It could be a little bit unnerving for new guys but It can be a lot of fun buying off the street, buying off pimps and buying off bikini bar proprietors that some look like villans. Downtown Cebu looks like a wild town and principally I wouldn’t go down any unlit street away off the beat at night. You might not come out again but there are parts of Cebu that are beautiful and it hosts some of the best resorts in The Philippines. Mactan Island is uncharted territory for me but one day would like to discover. The girls here are very different from what you will get in Angeles and I had one successful girl and one that short-timed me. But the girl that short-timed me had a stunning body and gave me her phone number for future reference. The fact that she had never been laid by a Caucasian may have had a little bearing on the fact.
I don’t know what else to add other than next time you are in The Philippines take a trip down to Cebu to see for yourself.

There are many good and decent hotels to choose from. There are many others of course for other members to report on and to add to the database. On top of my three choices there are numerous short time hotels to take a short time girl to while your longtime honeyko awaits you at your permanent hotel.

Brief review: The rooms are clean but basic with linoleum on the floors with basic furniture. Rooms have cable television and modern bathrooms. The big advantage with this hotel is that there are many touts and taxi drivers operating right outside this hotel and that they are able to bring girls right up to your room to choose from.

Rates: $US35.00 deluxe and $US30.00 regular.
Brief review: The building is new but of boutique size. On the ground floor is an expat bar which can be good for finding out what is what and there is a good-sized pool table. The owner Dick and his wife are good people and Dick has no problem bringing ladies in provided you keep it low key. He won’t let Filipinos walk off the street and try to freelance. Disadvantage/Advantage is there are no phones in the rooms. They do have Cable Television in each room though.

Every time I come to the Philippines I normally end up in Cebu for a weekend and this trip was no exception. Over 2 or 3 nights I visited a number of bars. Here are my reviews. The first night I visited the Mango Ave Area and had somebody with me so wasn’t able to ascertain bar fines and expected morning tips.
MANGO AVENUE AREA
PAPILLION; Very nice décor, very similar to the one in Makati and ex Papillion in Angeles (now renamed Angels) All red velvet to resemble a cocktail lounge.
San Miguel beer 95 pesos, 2 customers with lots of girl but mainly below 5 except for one or two. Also one Billyboy in attendance
BLACK STUMP; Old shakeys pizza restaurant, now a bikini bar with a light striptease on stage. Girls never remove essential clothing. Lots of customers with most girls in the 5 to 6 range. San Miguel 50 pesos.
B.J. BIKINI BAR; Another bikini bar which I though had the best lookers, 6 to 7 range. Light striptease on stage. San Miguel 55 pesos. Only 2 customers.
CAMARI BIKINI BAR: Didn’t visit
EXOTICA BAR: Didn’t visit
JONES AVENUE AREA
SILVERDOLLARBAR; A popular bar just around the corner from Osmena Feunte Circle. It was 1am Monday morning when I visited and there were around 5-6 customers. There are always one or two dancers on stage. 6-7 lookers. San Miguel 60pesos. 650 pesos Barfine. 160 peso lady drinks. GRO I was talking to wanted to go now, Asked her how much. Up to you. She was tired so could of got away between 500-1000 pesos.
FIREHOUSE; Cousins of the Manila operation incl the fire pole. Very similar setup to Manila except there is less girls visible. However there were at least 15 girls available and 3 only customers. 7-9 lookers. San Miguel: 70 pesos. Barfine: 700 pesos. Lady drink: 175 pesos. Tip to girl: 2000 pesos set fee although I’m sure it could be negotiable on a quiet night.

LAS VEGAS CLUB; Wanted to visit but it was closed. Whether that was for Sunday I don’t know.
THUNDERDOME; Didn’t visit this trip but always found its standards better than most clubs in Cebu.
SANGIAKO/PALAEZ STREET AREA
PINAI BIKINI BAR: A little upstairs bar with bikini strip that gets down to the full Monty. One other foreigner in the bar and I hope he wasn’t being fleeced. He was buying drinks for three ladies and had about 12 lady drinks on his table. A dancer sat with me and wanted to go Barfine. When she got on stage and stripped right down that was a good enough reason not too. 5-6 lookers. San Miguel: 50 pesos. Lady drinks: 200 pesos. Barfine: (all inclusive) 1600 pesos.
MANNYS: Wanted to visit but it was closed. Almost 2am Monday morning. On a walk by the next day I am not even sure it is still in existence.
CENTURY HOTEL: Visited last trip but didn’t visit this trip.
Note; There are many small bikini type bars in this area but I would advise to watch your bar tab if you start buying lady drinks.
Country Mall Area
JAGUAR KARAOKE BAR
I visited this karaoke bar on the assumption that there was a bald show here but it turned out negative. The interior is very nice and obviously Chinese run with red lighting everywhere.
There were probably around 30 girls waiting in leather sofas wanted to sing her lungs to you in private rooms. Couldn’t understand the girls would all go upstairs and come back in five-ten minutes. Maybe a customer wanted to choose from the fishbowl. Looks expensive but turned out cheaper than I expected. However the mamasan wanted to sell me a plate of peanuts for 100 pesos.
Lookers: 7-8, San Miguel 65 pesos plus service charges
LapuLapu area.
I have never been to lapulapu before so these clubs are a first for me. Please bear in mind that it was a Monday evening and was lightly raining so attendances are probably better during the later week.
T-BACK BAR
When I went in there were two tables of Filipinos and myself, but later on foreigners increased to two and filopinos tables decreased to one. There is a bikini show with light stripping depending on the dancer at the time. But there is a gay Filipino who does short skits between the dancers and they are quite funny with a horse trying to give him a blowjob. Lookers: 5-6, San Miguel 60 pesos, Lady entry fee: 100 pesos
BUTTERFLY MINIBAR
I was the only one there until a table of Filipino males turned up. They also do bikini shows here and they do in fact strip to their birthday suits. The dancers I saw here seemed to know how to at least dance and move their bodies. Lookers: 6-7, San Miguel: 40 pesos but there seems to be an entry fee of 25 pesos.
Expat Bars
OUR PLACE
On the corner of Palaez and Sangianko Streets. Little upstairs expat bar that has been there for years. Nice ambience and they cook the best home fries in the Philippines
KIWI LODGE
In Tudtud Street in Mobolo. Is a small hotel catering for expats and travelers? Has a downstairs bar that serves up a consistent quality. Only problem with the rooms (could be a good thing) that no rooms have a telephone. Very friendly establishment.
Short-Time Hotels
There are numerous spread over the city but Hotel Sogo, Q5 and Queensland come to mine. Hotel Sogo will do two hour duration for 144 pesos.
Boarding Houses/ Pimps/ Taxi girls
(A) Depending which way you want to go. These girls that are offered at each place are essentially short time but can be negotiated longtime. Cruise lower Jones Avenue/Sangianko Avenue/Palaez Street and many pimps will approach you, as well as a couple of woman selling goods in lower Jones Avenue will also have woman available. A couple of freelancers may be wondering around.
They will take you to a boarding house; you choose a girl and handover the required amount which also includes the sex with the girl.
(B) Similar to the pimps but they will tell you to wait somewhere and within minutes a taxi will turn up with three girls inside. You choose one girl (or two), the other girls hop out, you conclude the money before the pimp gets the taxi or after the girl is chosen, and you continue on your way to your hotel where you are staying or to a short-time hotel nearby.
(C) This way will save you money, if you know where to go. Go to Junquera Street (off P Del Rosario St by the big university) and where you see this alleyway beside this shop, walk up to the end and there will be a mama sun with 10-20 girls available for you to choose from. Mostly these are the same girls you will buy off the pimps or by taxi girl method. They are university girls without enough funds in the 18-22 year age bracket. Negotiate directly with the mamasun and cut out the pimps take.
There are other boarding houses nearby but they are usually less education girls from the provinces.

Looks like I'll have to get back to Cebu sometime (it's been many years since I was last there).
Good to see the Silver Dollar bar still going strong, always was a favourite of mine as was Our Place for a relaxing daytime hangout.
As for Manny's bar the last time I was there it was more of a locals bar but may have changed over the years.
In fact it was a lot like the other smaller local bars in that area-extra loud music.
For hotels I used to stay at the Hotel De Mercedes but have been told now you have to fight off the biggest cockroaches in the PI (true or not I may have to look at the MidTown for the next trip).

Hello folks.
Any more tips or updates on Cebu would be much appreciated, especially on hotels and general orientation.
Do the hotels tend to be GF or do you have to duck and dive?
If you stayed out on the beach at Maktan Island, would that be too far to go into Cebu for fun at night? And do the Maktan hotels have a stricter guest policy than the ones in the city?
Sorry about all the questions. I did UTFSE but it didn't have a lot of practicalities and it was all fairly old.

I was in Cebu two days ago. The Marriott is great for $78 a night. Personally, if your willing to spend 6000 pesos on a girl, the best club in Asia is located in Cebu. Its called Club Arenas and they have just added 10-20 new girls (18-20 years old) over the last couple of weeks. The midget and lady boy shows are also hilarious and breakup the dance shows. The place is one of the last places I have found in Asia where the owner doesnt try to attract an older customer. That means it is alot of fun and the girls look to have fun there more then hound for drinks. Its awesome and better then any gclub by a mile in LOS. The quality of the girls is what you would expect at a forte, resort or carribean and yes, you can barfine them... Stay away from the other KTVs like Jaguars. Old bgs that are greedy and boring. Arenas is opened until 3am and I would suggest going there wednes-saturday nights.
