Hi,
Interesting to read all the posts that compare Thailand and Philippines. I have been extremely lucky to have gone to the LOS the past three summers (free trips - cultural studies!!). I love Thailand, but the money has run dry to come back under the former topic I mentioned. Luckily, I did get one for the Philippines.
I plan to spend a few days in Manila viewing cultural sites ( I will create a web site). Right now looking at the Makati Prime Tower Suites and REGINES HOTEL, both on Kalayaan Avenue in Makati. Any experiences with these places? GF ? Also any suggestions for short day trips? I do the cultural stuff during the day and fun at night, or maybe both!!
Then I want to go to Northern Luzon and see Vigan, Baguio and the rice terrances. I have heard roads are very bad in the Philippines, so thinking of flying. Any suggestions for getting there? A 10 hour bus trip sounds awful! What about places to stay? $40 is my top price.
After this I will go to Cebu and hopefully Bohol. Many people say that Boracay is fantastic, but more of a couple or honeymooner spot. I will be on my own. How about the beaches on Cebu and Bohol. I like beaches and have enjoyed the ones in LOS, Kara, Kamala, and even an island off Pattaya.
I thought the whole trip would take about 2 1/2 weeks. Then as a reward, I would zip over to LOS. Not sure where this time, as I have spent a lot of time in BKK, been to Phuket, Issan, Chiang Mai, Sukhothai etc. Any suggestions fellows?
I would just like to add that I have been following this forum for quite a few years and I have found it to be extremely informative and helpful. enuff said!

All that in 2 1/2 weeks? Jesus, you will be busy.
I have been to most of the places in the PI on your schedule, but it would take me to long to reply in depth.

If you are planning on travelling to northern Luzon, try to get a ride on the deluxe buses of Farinas, which is a bus company servicing parts of Northern Luzon. Spent a 10 hr bus ride on one of their buses and it passed by VERY well.
