I'm planning a trip to AC and have heard that the Orchid Hotel is a pretty good place to stay. I looked up their site and saw that there are three grades of rooms. When I clicked on "view rooms" for each grade of rooms the same four pictures appeared. Would someone please tell me about their experiences with this hotel and the differences between the rooms. Is upgrading from the standard room worth the extra money? Any particular rooms expecially better than others. I'm thinking of going in late January or early February for four or five weeks. Many thanks for your imput.

I've seen the rooms at the Orchid, and they are over-priced. In Nov I took a look at that new place on Fields Av...Amsterdam. Very nice rooms, great location. I also liked the rooms in Swiss Chalet - so much nicer than Orchid, and MUCH quieter / cheaper.

Cisco, I'm in AC right now - if you are coming for business you may want to look at the Holiday Inn or the Clarkton. The Holiday Inn is girl freindly but off the beaten track - 150 pesos (demand the UPSD rate) to field street where all the action is. The Clarkton is a bit closer. If you are here for pleasure then the Orchid and the Nile are in the heart of the action - it would be similar to having a room in the middle of Soi Cowboy. I will be in AC for the next two months with a quick trip to LOS - PM me and we can have a beer. CZ

Calzoid, Great to know that you are enjoying in AC. How far is woodland resort from field avenue? In the web site it has quite spacious rooms. Do you recommend it ? What about Swagman Nara ?

Bimlee Woodland Park is a 5 min trike ride from Field's, or you could walk it in 10 - 15. The rooms aren't cheap (deluxe 1450 pesos and executive 1650 pesos) and they're of a similar standard to Sunset Gardens (approx 800 pesos) All rooms look spacious in website photos - but these rooms aren't really big. Pool's the biggest I've seen in AC but not particularly clean. One advantage is that it's quieter than Orchid and other hotels in and around Fields. Orchid is noisy! Standard rooms go for $25 - small, not fresh, no windows.

In my opinion the Orchid is more than just the rooms... They have the best pool/garden area (which is now strictly for hotel guests and their companion/s) and is a good place to relax during the day... It has a good atmosphere about the place and is a good place to meet up with friends... I usualy just book the standard rooms... Another choice that people are looking at now is the Central Park Hotel (it's on the Balibago link in a previous post)... A good hotel just around the corner from the Orchid and is owned and run by Rosselle and her hubby (former senior staffer of Orchid)... Hotel (formally Park Chicago) went through a major renovation last year and the rooms are reasonably priced... I have heard guys raving about this hotel since Rosselle took over...one big catch though - you will have to book wayyyyy in advance and I mean months in advance...
