Heading off to the PI for a visit. I will be staying at the New World in Manila. What are the places upon arrival to get a PI sim card for my phone? Is there a place at the airport, or a place close to the New World where I will be able to get one.
Thanks. My first time to the PI, so I will be a total newbie, but after spending a lot of time in BKK, it will be nice to have a new scene to explore, and one that should not leave me longing for BKK too badly. I am definately ready for no f***ing closing times!

You can get it at either of the airports, at every 7-11 and at the cell phone shops which all ALL OVER town. Filipino's are addicted to their phones and it shows in the sheer quantity of these shops.
Since you are staying at the NWO, make sure to visit Masas (Greenbelt 2) and Sentro (greenbelt 3) for excellent Filipino food.
At Masas I can recommend the drunken shrimp, the sisig, the baked scallops and the crispy pata. Sentro is famous for its sinigang (and the rest of the menu actually.)

Thanks for the advice. I have stored all the other info I have read off this site, and will use it wisely. That greenbelt area sounds like my style. What are some good discos you reccomend in Manila. As always I like to check out the whole spectrum of nightlife.

Can anyone help me please a bit further on this thread. I am going to PH as well soon and wonder about a few details:
1. The thai phone card I have (AIS 1-to-call) - will it work in PH? Probably not.
2. So then I buy a simcard at the said places there. How do they do top-ups? Do you buy a refill scratch-card same as here or do they do the top-up in some other fashion? Which is the major outlet where to find a refill? I hear there may be a so called electronically top-up wheras you just get a code number on a slip in the shop? Or is it just cards?

if it has roaming then yes of course it will work
but just as easy and cheaper to pick up a p.i prepaid sim here, very cheap, easy to top up, and some like globe if u add 500 pesos load u get 85 free sms anyway
u really need a local number for the local girls to sms u back and forth etc, int'l sms etc out of their budgets
can top up from cards or from other peoples phones "passaload"
very easy dont worry and very cheap
