hi all... got a friend in Hong Kong and she had overstayed for almost 2 month. she is now afraid to leave Hong Kong..
anybody here knows what are the fines or concequences for overstaying in Hong Kong?? any advice for this poor TG??

If it has not changed since british rule,
They probably just deport offenders, paying there air fairs too.
Here in the UK, II's just turn up and hand themselves in at a police station when they want a free ride home.

Hi Chrisboy,
The Immigration Department just rang me and said it was difficult to predict any punishment without knowing the reason for the overstay. I didn't say anything about freelancing etc. A jail sentence before deportation is a possibility but the officer said it could also depend on the reason for overstay -- if she was mistaken about when her visa expired or if a family member was in hospital here.
The officer said she could contact the Immigration Extension Department 5/F in Wanchai but suggested she do it asap as every day the overstay continued would be making things worse.

This TG certainly not very professional. She can just take a hydrofoil or ferry to Macau and come back to get another stamp. Or go to China and come back.
Before I had a Filippina who overstayed in HK for few weeks. She told me she had to pay a fine at the airport and that was it. But it seems like the overstay in HK is case by case. So this TG may get some interrogation at the airport when she trys to leave. But she maybe lucky if the immigration officer is nice person and may just let her go. Or she may have to pay fine or she maybe blacklisted and let go. Many possibilities.
But tell her to make a run to Macau or China next time. So easy why want to go throufgh this trouble.

It probably is case by case, but I would have some doubts about someone who has overstayed for two months, being able to get an extension in Macau and then come straight back into HK. Still, stranger things have happened. She might catch the Immigration guy on a good day. But the longer she leaves it the worse it's going to be.
