Somewhere in this thread, I attempted to put down something of what I thought of the Star of Light and its services and, fearing a back-lash within the Thai culture, I refrained from calling it a temple. Instead, I aligned it more to a church ( wrongfully ) and got a lot of groaning about refering to it in that way.
However, reading ma9's post here, there is nothing offensive in refering to it as a temple and really, I would hold it to be as such myself, not being religious in any sense of the word.
An elevated place.
Dedicated to a heightened awareness.
A pure experience that attunes the discordance of mind and body.
