It sounds like he affected a lot of people without necessarily even having met them in person.
According to Wittleus, the service probably took place yesterday. I would definitely have gone if I still lived anywhere near Thailand.
I can't help wondering how many people went and whether it in any way reflected the number of people he affected in his life. Of course, he had some family and I assume they made it but I also have visions of a trusty SoL guard of honour...

I have only used SOL on two seperate occasions but on each one whilst doing the deed on the sofa there was a guy maybe in his late 60's early 70's sitting at the bar having a drink and reading a newspaper.
As far as I know he only looked round once with a wry smile and carried on his afternoon sojourn.
Whether Joe or not I have no idea.
Another poster gone.
2016 has been a real bitch taking people from us, Greg Lake today.
I guess its a generation thing as I would assume posters on here are 45 plus at least and the sands of time are starting to slip away
The younger generation have a different Thailand today from the early 80's when I first visited.

I got a call from his daughter telling me of this today. Apparently, his phone was broken and they had to get it fixed. She finally found my number and called me.
Whom we know here as Joe Wood was a close friend for some years. My own family had met him on several occasions. He was a wonderfully prolific writer on here. His views, though at times even controversial, were always compassionate. And he was like that in real life too. When you talked with him, he didn't just sound off his views, he asked you thoughtful questions. He was always extremely interested in people around him.
It goes without saying that this is painful news to me indeed. His sonorous voice, from so many conversations, is as memorable as if it were five minutes ago and I always relished the idea that he was not far. I am sad I could not be informed in time for his services. But things are like that sometimes. He somehow gave much to many. I am glad to read that he made such a good impression on those who met or knew him. Friendship with a man such as he makes a lasting contribution.
Rest in Peace, my friend.

OMG... This is indeed shocking news which make me really really sad...
I considered V. (Joe Wood) my best 'BTF friend' if that makes sense. I met him a few times in person in my BKK years a decade ago and he always impressed and inspired me very much with his unique thoughtful, positive and respectful attitude towards the ladies which I admired more and more in those days. No one has ever brought so much dignity into the often shady and sad red light world. And he also helped me personally very much in a particular state of painful love with a bargirl I was once in at that time.
Even for me as a non-native English speaker it was a delight to read his humorous posts in his wonderful elaborated writing.
It is good to read so many posts from people who have had similar experiences with him and we can see his outstanding personality even clearer through this.
Rest in peace dear friend. You will not be forgotten but will sincerely be missed and your light will shine on us long after you have gone...
