Maybe it depends on how long you take them out for. Everytime I spend an hour or so in a ST room with one of the SOL girls, I never have to pay a barfine.
Edit: I'm sorry to have made a false impression here about the barfine. I do in fact pay for a barfine but it isn't literally spelled out that way for me. The girls I see know me well and know that I pay well and tip well. So why mention "barfine" to me when I pay it by overpaying the girls and tipping well. It works out in the end. It's just the way they do it with me.

Actually I haven't taken a girl out of there for a couple months! (since being told the Foodland room closed) and I've just been doing my thing on the sofa with the party for heaven's sake, and I haven't even asked about the rooms. I don't know what my problem is! But please don't endanger the Star of Light.

I go to the Star of Light every week.
Once, twice, three, four times maybe, if I can afford it.
I'm an ex-pat living here and have done so for years.
I am a regular.
But apparently not favoured.
I pay a bar-fine every time.
And I'm happy to do so.
The bar gains.
Without the bar, the ladies would not be there.
And then I pay the ladies for their services.
And I make it a rule always to tip.
But tip generously.
They earn and deserve every penny of it.
Bless them.

I've been going to the Star of Light for years and years. I remember when it wasn't the Star of Light.
I am a regular....very regular
But..........I pay the bar-fine every time. 400 baht.
I want the bar to continue.
I want it to become what Khun Vichai intended it to be.
And I know that if it flourishes, it will be because of the bar-fine that everyone pays in order to take a young lady out of the bar, even for a short while.
The bar-fine is the principle income.
Now, whether sirtitus has a particular lady who so fancies him that she secretly pays the bar-fine for him, I do not know. I suspect that this is the case, since he is the one trundling the wheel-barrow. He is, by self-confession, big. Being well-endowed, maybe sometimes he disguises his phallusial transportation as a Foodland shopping trolley.
But all this amounts to the fact that he is an extremely favoured son of SOL.

Hi guys ( Yes, I'm a number 4 according to JW's entry on page 41).
Been going to the Star of Light for years every week.
Knew Khun Vichai well ( may he rest in peace ) and have been royally treated with Tiger beers every time JW has been in there. He introduced me to heaven years back.
I've always had to pay the bar-fine.
Always been asked to..........
Always happy to pay it.
I want the Star of Light and its angels in my life.
I love them.
Yes, seajohn, isn't it wonderful how friendships of such depth spring up in one's life from quarters where you'd least expect them too.

Yes, to all above.
And I think we can guess the case with good ol' SirTitus... and how it also makes very clear, yes very clear, to me a certain young lady's comments to me just after the closing of the Foodland Room which I paid no attention to at the time. And tracing all the evidence it also makes clear to me that this person is a very kind, open-hearted and very hardworking woman.
Well, what we've always said, SOL is a place where various relationships and favors (from both sides) may flourish. But gentle readers, as sometimes the girls have complained to me about some mean-spirited tourist customers taking advantage one way or another, please allow me to remind visitors that you have to give in order to receive.
Like any bar, either there's a fine policy or not; and if there is, someone's paying it--in a special case that could be the girl--but it has to be paid. I'm sure that none of the girls themselves have the ability to waive that. Maybe SirTitus,
you pay so well in the room, they don't mind paying the barfine (400baht right) out of that?
So with all the posts coming in now looks like I'll go back to my original assumption; and, as mentioned, readers mustn't lose sight of the fact that in this case above we are talking about a many years' long business+plus relations here and I don't think that SirTitus has in any way avoided paying, or tried to avoid paying, the fine of course! Great Expectations, the Secret Sharer. Visitors should expect to pay fine for takeaways and since it is the bar's main income (besides the 200 per shot in the bar), we all benefit by it.
Now I'm getting inspired.

And I know that sirtitus pays full whack but that the ladies care for him, particularly two of them.

And thank your lucky stars that the Star of Light exists and is still going strong, even after poor Khun Vichai's sudden demise. He was a man with a big heart who treated those ladies with consideration and care as if they were his own daughters. Only 54 years old.
I admired him greatly and I miss him as a friend.
But the angels always try to console me as best they can.
And they can and they do, in many many ways, as only friends can.
