A little update. Apparently, the girls have to pay a cover charge regardless of their time of arrival. So, essentially, they do pay RM40 or RM45 (for Fridays & Saturdays). For the customers, if they get in before 9 pm, there is no cover charge. Additionally, the drinks are at happy hours price, which is just over half the regular price. If you're a beer drinker, then order a bucket of 6 bottles of Carlsberg (which sponsored the development of quantum physics, see this article) for only RM75. That should last you for a couple of hours. After 9 pm, the bottle of beer is RM30 (~300 B), which is freaking expensive compared to BKK.

I don't see that any Africans these days. According to one taxi driver, they were involved in some robbery scam, and after a few complaints from the customers, they are banned from entering on their own, unless accompanied by a customer.

Kuala Lumpur the 4th most affordable place
===========================

KUALA LUMPUR: The federal capital has emerged as the fourth most affordable city out of 60 cities polled in the World Urban Transit Price Index.

It came behind behind New Delhi and Mumbai in India as well as Jakarta in a poll conducted by GoEuro.com.

GoEuro.com is a travel metasearch engine which allows users to compare the price and journey time of air, rail and bus travel options in a single search.

The poll took into account factors including distance, time and taxes, GoEuro gathered all data from official provider sites.

The taxi data was calculated based on the cost of a 10km ride; for Uber* the average cost of all available services in the city for an equivalent journey, and for public transport the cost of a single ticket.

On average, in Kuala Lumpur, a public transport ticket costs RM2.43 ($0.74) per ride and a taxi journey (12.09) $3.68 per 10km.

The most expensive city for urban transport overall is Stockholm, Sweden, where a public transport costs $4.96 per ride; a taxi journey $40.04 per 10km; and an Uber journey $48.57 per 10Km.

The cheapest city for transport overall is New Delhi, India, where an average public transport ticket costs $0.22 per ride; a taxi journey $2.62 per 10km; and an Uber journey $4.40 per 10Km.

Report from The STAR (Malaysia) dated 12 February 2015 :

"Errant taxis prevent Kuala Lumpur from being top shopping city"

SEPANG: Unlawful taxi drivers were the leading factor that prevented Kuala Lumpur from being ranked the best shopping city in the world, said Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz.

Nazri said this was because Kuala Lumpur received poor marks on public transportation, especially involving taxi services, which landed the city in fourth place behind London, Tokyo, and New York.

The rankings were based on a poll entitled "World's 12 best shopping" cities that was published by international news organisation CNN conducted over a year ago.

Nazri said the poor marks for the criteria were due to errant taxi drivers' refusal to use the meter and haggling on prices.

"The fourth place ranking is important but what is more important is the reality on the ground, and not only for tourists, but for the (Malaysian) people," he told reporters

With the introduction of the GST back in April, Beach Club has raised their beer prices from RM 17 to RM 21 for happy hour beers. The bucket of 6 has increased slightly from RM 75 to RM 79. The after happy hour prices remain the same at the exorbitant RM 30 per beer.

This place is still packed after 10:30 onwards, predominantly Vietnamese, some Uzbeks, Filipinas, Burmese and Thai.

The Area near Beach Club has many Hotels, best place for a Foreigner to play. No its not Bangkok with most of the places that are interesting having Freelancers (Beach Club, Thai Cowboy, Hard Rock Café), there are also many Massage Parlours in that Area around Jalan P Ramlee. I like the Concord (connected to Hard Rock) but its pricey.

Yeah, you want to stay near those clubs so that you can walk back to the room. This place, like Singapore, has the taxi surcharge after midnight, and most of the taxis won't want to use the meter anyway, so you will be paying exorbitant rates.

There are a couple of other hotels very near Beach Club, especially. Crown Regency (on Jalan P Ramlee just 20m from Beach Club) and Frasers Suites (on Jalan Perak, approx. 100m from Beach Club).
