This may be a rather off the wall question, but I'll be grateful for any genuine answers. I am going to be living in KL for the next few months at least and I have heard it is a heavily supervised society. So how far should I watch my internet activities? I'm assuming that Bangkok Tonight is available, but could there be problems obtaining more explicit sites such as some of the Thai massage sites? Might a 3G ipad be a solution?

Ah... the restrictive Islamic Malaysia.... another urban myth that needs to die.
Malaysia is no more restrictive than Thailand. It has a secular government and Islamic law is only applied to Muslims.
As for internet surveillance you will get no more than you will find in the US (and if you think that the FBI is not monitoring your 'dirty' activities, guess again). And it has been my experience that Thailand is much more restrictive about websites than other countries in this region.
Any blocking will more likely be with those sites that either:
disparage Islam -or-
will disrupt social stability (such as pro-communist blogs)
Now as for hard-core porn sites you might find some blocked but the stand of the governments here is that Internet Filtering is a pretty inefficient way to control access given the ease of connecting through proxies.
Anyway, why in the hell would you go to the Thai Massage sites when you can go to the Beach Club and get the real thing  ...

Thanks for the heads up China Sailor. I'll be going to Thai sites because I prefer to play in Thailand. What little I've tried of the Malay scene does not turn me on that much. Moreover my work situation will mean I have to be careful about where I am seen - and the Beach Club would not be a good idea. Some of us have to be a little more discreet about our mongering activities.
