Patron dies falling off brothel amid dawn raid

By Ivan Shi

Alleged illegal brothel sealed off
A man has plunged to his death after trying to flee from the police during a crackdown on prostitution, Guangzhou Daily reported.
The 35-year-old patron, surnamed Xiong, fell from the fourth floor of a hotel at Wangniudun town, Guangdong, after 5pm on 3 November. He was in the attempt to flee a police raid on the alleged illegal brothel when he inadvertently slipped.

The police dialed the "120" hotline after they found the unconscious man lying in a pool of blood with a piece of undergarment and a pair of socks in his hands. Paramedics pronounced Mr Xiong dead at the scene after all attempts to revive him failed.

It is understood that Mr Xiong and a working girl, surnamed Wang, were staying in Room 531 at Yinghuang Hotel. Mr Xiong climbed out the window when the police were smashing the door with iron hammer. He then found his way down to the fourth floor where he stood on an air conditioner before he met his fatal fate.

China is known for its rigid campaign against the country's fast-growing sex industry, with frequent crackdowns targeting leisure and entertainment establishments where illicit sex is sold in disguise.

The past has witnessed patrons resorting to dangerous tactics in a bid to avoid arrest. Eearlier this year, a stack of photographs went viral on the Chinese Internet, in which an undressed client can be spotted shining down a rusty drainpipe to disappear into the backstreets.
