Going to Poipet in a few weeks via Jack Golfs tour bus and fancied staying a night somewhere on the border, probably in a casino hotel. does anyone have any P4P experience in this area, how much of the Wild West rumours are true ? I've passed through here before during the day and it looked okay, but what can I expect at night, other than the sun going down !
Any info or pointers greatly appreciated.
Apologies just noticed this thread is entitled Feild Report, which the above is not. But it will be if I can get some starting points !

However, casino's attract gambling men who attract loose women.... so you'll never know.
For me this is a place to get out as soon as possible

No personal experience other than being offered girls by many of the touts that want to assist you as you cross the border. One guy was offering Viet girls last time l was there. Any place that has half a dozen casinos along the main street is bound to have p4p.
You say you're going with JackGolf. Don't their tours usually return same day? If so you may be better off making your own way there. It's not difficult, less than 200 baht on a bus from Morchit. Have a read of Tales of Asia for detailed instructions on how to do it yourself. After dark l think l'd be sticking to my hotel-casino, and l usually don't worry about wandering about most places at night but Poipet strikes me as a place where it might not be a great idea.
Here's some casino info for you. Keep in mind that the casinos will be busy on the weekends as lots of Thai's go to Poipet for the weekend. The Holiday Resort Casino on the left after you leave Thailand had rooms from about 1800 baht per night, so not cheap however it and the casino opposite, the Grand Diamond did look nice when l went for a look around the gaming areas.
You may be able to get a free room mid-week at the Holiday if you purchase thirty thousand baht in chips. You will have to actually use them at least once to qualify for the free room so it would be up your skill at the tables to see if you can really get it for free. Baccarat is the most popular game as far as l could see.

Thanks Future Park, I'm using Jack Golf purely for convenience, I've made the journey before on a Thai gambling coach, 200 baht return from Central Bangna, which is near where I live, but on top of that you need 1,200 Baht for the visa guy and you also have to queue to get in and out of Thailand. With Jack Golf you pay 2,000 Baht, it includes the Cambodia visa and they also have a side table where the exit and entry stamp is done, so no queing and no touts, I tend to be the first to save money wherever possible but for me this 600 Baht is worth its weight when it comes to the pain in the arse touts and the MIB.
I'm not really a table guy, so 30,000 on chips isn't going to happen, but hotel doesnt sound too bad.
I've seen a few MP's there but never ventured in, wondered if any bro's had any experiences in there too, also do you think the hotels will be girl friendly ? or will they have there own girls they want you to take ?
Thanks for the tips, and I your comment on sticking to the casino after dark is the one warning bell ringing in my head, but I wonder if it really is like that ?

The Thai gambling coach sounds like an interesting idea, but do you get karaoke vcds all the way to the border?   
If anyone has the time then a Cambodian visa can be obtained at the Cambodian Embassy in Bangkok for $20.
At Poipet no one should pay one baht more than 1000 baht for a visa. Any tout who says you need their help to get a visa should be ignored,  as should any requests for SARS certificates, fees to speed up processing or any charge for spending less than 24 hours in Cambodia. They're all scams, don't fall for them. Pretend you don't speak English if you have to but do not pay more than 1000 baht. I've met people who have paid up to 1700 baht, not smart. If you want to throw your money away there are plenty more deserving people you can give it to than some tout or border official. If you know what to expect (see Tales of Asia) then doing it solo isn't difficult.
I imagine that JackGolf would have some arrangement with the border officials if you don't have to line up at the border, however if you get to the border before noon then there isn't usually much of a wait, but if you want the smoothest, most convenient way across the border then JG is probably the way to go.
It's usually only after midday when the KSR buses arrive that it can take up to an hour to exit Thailand. The Cambodian formalities always seem pretty quick and returning to Thailand has speeded up now the new staff at Thai immigration have got their act together.

Agreed. I am going there every month.
Now with a little more tourists around, the wait at the Thai exit is no longer than 20 minutes.
(Be aware that there are two lanes for foreigners).
The wait at the Cambodian visa service and immigration and exit is minimal and the immigation at the Thai site usually no longer than 10 minutes.
The cost: THB 94 for train return
THB 100 for tuk tuk
THB 1000 for visa.
1194 baht opposed to 2000 baht. Not really worth it.

I think it is:
1000b for VISA
100b if you stay only 1 day
you may have to slip 100b if you don't have a photo
Casino rooms (Thai prices anyway) :
700b almost all casinos almost every day: 200b in gambling chips given back (so....net = 500b)
Cash in midweek around 15000b = free room (must play with chips; best game for breakeven = bacarrat, some casinos do not allow use of these chips for BJ)
Cash in weekend 20000b or more depending= free room
Can the casino be beaten? Not easily; 6D, 66% pen; dble9,10,11; LS, DAS, but they burn every round; unless you can see the burn card and lay down about a 20:1 spread then it is hard to beat (incidentally, I have had no problem doing both of these at more than 1 casino). No heat, but the lack of cards to be seen and poor penetration kill you.
I don't have to do visa runs, but this is what I know.
Most of the tour buses are 100b if you are a player; or 200b each way, or if you place a decent amount (i.e. 10,000b) then free.

I was hit for 100 baht for 'entry fee'. Although it seems they don't exercise that 'right' anymore.
Just put '15 days' instead of '1 day' on your arrival card.

the p4p does exist
it is about 2000-3000 thai baht
usually only available at night, girl just outside the street of
some hotel.
ask the hotel guy, maybe they can help u.
don't follow the motor guy to cross the gate in daytime, they
charge high and girl disappear sometime.

Lots of brothels in Poipet. There are clean and safe guest houses as well and rather cheap.
I have probably seen most brothels in Poipet. But Poipet is probably the only place in this region I wouldnt go out alone at night.
Pick a motorbike and let him take you. Girls from 300 baht I think. Take away LT 1000 baht as I remember.
Poipet is a shithole indeed but can be fun exploring for a night.
