qq, pussies are just one of my constant distractions I enjoy when I'm not watching some Astronomy video or lecture, playing pool (8,9 or 10-ball) or listening to Aaron Copland. Surprisingly, I played some Mozart during one of my sessions with a TG, and about a few weeks later I met her again and she casually mentioned that she remembered me playing Mozart. That's very rare for a TG. The Ruskies love it when I put on some Tchaikovsky.

expatchuck: My professional orchestra experience was as a clarinetist in an army band between 16 and 18. Actually the training was very good and many wind and brass players in the leading symphony orchestras in my country have started as military musicians. Made some solo performances on the clarinet. Also played in an amateur symphony orchestra. The Mozart (of course) and Nielsen concertos are my favourites for clarinet. Technically I would never master the Nielsen even if I practised 24/7 my full life. At 25 Stanley Drucker of the NY Philharmonic played it like a breeeze, the outragesously difficult staccato cadenza like a machine gun. And musically I would never master Mozart.

...and quack: I am sure sitting down discussing Haydn symphonies with you would be very rewarding ("Listening to Joseph Haydn is like taking a walk with a good friend in the countryside on a clear autumn day"). Actually, however I never meet anybody on this or any other site, Paranoid about anonymity; if you read some postings here you certainly understand why...the infantile anal regression seems to be total, even Freud would be shocked. Some of these guys are to be avoided at all cost! Not personal of course, let's see how my paranoia and our schedules will develop in the next few months.

Quote: from quack quack on 3:19 pm on Nov. 28, 2010 EPC; sarcasm noted; no, I've never performed in an orchestra. Have been a classical music fan since age 12; happened to listen to BBC radio & heard the most wonderful music emanating from there, was transfixed & had to hear all that music, when it ended the announcer said: ' You've just heard Beethoven's 7th symphony performed by so & so, orchestra'. Beethoven has been God for me ever since.
No sarcasm intended, I was simply curious if either of you had played in a symphony orchestra. In another life, I played French Horn in a couple of symphony orchestras, The Dallas Symphony and a much smaller one in Texas. It puts a much different outlook on your listening pleasure if you have played the music. I like Beethoven but have always preferred pieces with strong Horn parts, such as those by Richard Strauss, Mozart, Handel, et al. Strauss' "Till Eulenspeigel" and Mozart's horn concertos were particular favorites of mine. I also enjoyed Copland and particularly the horn part in "Fanfare for the Common Man", Appalachian Spring" and "Rodeo". \ Alas, I have bored you enough so will now get back to my old sarcastic role in life.

Dopey: The first question that comes to my mind is why I am discussing anything with two guys named Dopey and Quack Quack. Aside from that, I was privileged to be asked to join the United States Navy Concert Band during a performance when I was in high school. It was great at that stage in my life to see how the Horn players failed to follow the written music during Souza's marches and ad libbed some great stuff. About your comment on anonymity on the forum. I have met many of our members and would gladly have most all of them visit in my home. I have had quite a few visit me and am proud to call many of them friends. Pick and choose, just like life in general. You will find this forum has members a cut above most other forums dedicated to our favorite subject...no, not classical music for most of them.

Expatchuck: Oh, sure, everybody is to be judged on his own merits as an individual and I am sure I also would be more than happy to meet many members of this board in person. Who am I to qualify or disqualify anybody? However: anonymity remains first priority for me, even though I suspect its compromised already - here or somewhere else on the net. There are many ways to enjoy sex and of course each to his own. As to me I avoid people who tend top be too graphical about some aspects of it. Not judging or patronizing anybody, just avoiding him. And to judge from some writers here - how can I be sure not to be bored (and disgusted) by this type of graphical expression of an anal regressive personality type in a real life meeting? Again, I am not referring to anybody participating in this thread, I am just explaining one of the reason for my overarching principle of anonymity visavi Westerners in Bangkok! Great to hear about your French horn background - the Dallas Symphony, quite impressive! With such a background you must still be playing your instrument professionally, right?

Nope. Gave it up years ago when I chose another field. Rather regret not keeping at it, though.

Expch:"Nope. Gave it up years ago when I chose another field. Rather regret not keeping at it, though." What a waste to give it up since you have reached this high level! There must also have been withdrawal symptoms, playing and listen to (classical) music is stronger than heroin addiction. There is a book called "Musicophilia" written by brain surgeon Oliver Sachs about this. Being a musician in a first class orchestra like the Dallas Symphony has of course its moments of extreme stress. According to studies the stress level of a musician before and during a concert reaches extraordinarily high levels. At the same time you need to be totally relaxed to play well - no easy mix! In this era of machine like techno pop dominance few people understand how challenging it is to play a REAL instrument. And how rewarding it is.

"For me; Beethoven is GOD & Mozart is his prophet. " I'm not with you on this one. Mozart is the pre-Christian Apolionian God of music. His late style is pointing forward, but nevetheless, essentially he is, like Goethe, the culmination, the peak of Western aestethics rather than the beginning of something new. Unequalled and unsurpassed. In his operas he also very "Shakespearean". In fact his portrayal of women rivals those by Shakespeare - and just by using tones alone! Imagine the earthbound Beethoven trying to write a divine piece like Nozze di Figaro or Cosi Fan Tutte! He would struggle and struggle and struggle but never succeed. Agree about Sabine Meyer, though, a great player. Cannot believe that I'm discussing Mozart vs Beethoven on a site primarily dedicated to anal-sadistic sex maniacs...
