atl, I agree with you about Gran Torino 100%. It ranks as as one of the top three I have seen this year, or in a long time. Brilliant script by Nick Schenk. And Clint made the studio agree up front that they would not seek to change a word of the script. Rightly so you mother f*cking go*k sh*t head.

It seems like "Shawshank" has popped up 2 or 3 times...I am still amazed that Stephen King wrote that as a short story....brilliance beyond my comprehension.. I guess that is why talent like that gets paid the big bucks cheers, atl

*edit in* This is a rant, but movie lovers might concur _________________________________________ I just popped in "Reservoir Dogs" and am watching it for the first time in like 5 years... I beg to ask, what better writer in the last 20 years is there than Tarantino????? OK, Judd Apetow, is right there and his field is comedy, "40 Year Old Virgin" was a brilliant screenplay and all his movies make a shit ton of money, but Taratino was just brilliant! I mean he wrote the screenplay for "True Romance" at like 24 and sold it for 50K just to help pay for "Reservoir Dogs" which put him on the map.... that was a roll of the dice, apparently he felt "True Romance" was good but wasnt his defining movie and "Reservoir Dogs" was...and his roll of the dice paid huge dividends for him... f***, he was working at a video rental store when he sold that screenplay and could have held out for waaaay more money...but felt it in his heart the other screenplay he had was his ticket.... and then of course, him and Roger Avery wrote the classic "Pulp Fiction" and his position in the industry was cemented. Jesus, I cant imagine working for minimum wage with 2 true cinema classics on your laptop. I mean every check out I would think to myself, "that will be 5 dollars sir, oh and by the way I have written what might be a top 10 film in the history of films ever!" It must have killed him trying to operate a normal life and trying to sell that.....but then again, that's what agents get paid for!!!!!! many might say he is a deciple of Scorsese, but he writes the most brilliant dialogue of anyone in the last 20 years.... and Tim Roth, won his role in "Reservoir Dogs" after a long alcohol and "Disco Dust" induced night on the town with Tarantino...talk about luck!!!!! and forget about John Travolta, he did "Pulp Fiction" for 100k and it resurrected his career and he is making millions because of the role as Vincent Vega...no question about that, Travolta better be sending Q a nice Christmas basket every year LOL! and, Harvey Keitel is in the same boat! atl
