Errr... chronological order: Marathon Man; USA 1976, John Schlesinger, Dustin Hoffmann, Roy Scheider Unforgettable: KZ doctor Christian Szell's (Sir Laurence Olivier) wicked laughter when he's in his bank locker looking at his remaining kilograms of diamonds in the rough bargained from Jews in the KZ. Blade Runner; USA 1982, Ridley Scott, Music Vangelis, Harrison Ford, Rutger Hauer, Daryl Hannah Unforgettable: when Rutger Hauer's character, the Android 'Roy', chatches poor Harrison Fords wrist before he falls from the edge of the rooftop after fighting Roy and puts him back in safety before he (Roy) dies... Roy: "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched c-beams glitter in the dark near the Tanhauser Gate. All those... moments will be lost... in time... like tears... in rain. Time... to die." [Roy's head bows. The dove flies away. Deckard watches Roy die.] Deckard (voiceover) : I watched him die all night. It was a long, slow thing and he fought it all the way. He never whimpered and he never quit. He took all the time he had... as though he loved life very much... every second of it... even the pain. Then he was dead. I don't know why he saved my life. Maybe in those last moments he loved life more than he ever had before. Not just his life... anybody's life... my life. All he'd wanted were the same answers the rest of us want. Where do I come from? Where am I going? How long have I got? All I could do was sit there and watch him die. Donnie Brasco; USA 1997, Mike Newell, Al Pacino, Johnny Depp Unforgettable: In the end, when 'Lefty' (Al Pacino) gets a call to see his mafia godfathers, knowing that he will be executed, he says to his wife this one heck of a sentence: "Tell Donnie, if there was ever a traitor in our group, I wish it was him..." Thereby leaving no doubt how much he finally hates his mafia world which he was never able to escape...

MTK, gotta agree with TA that the dentist drilling scene in Marathon Man is "drilled" into my mind and I was like 6 when my dad took me and my older sister to see it! and Donnie Brasco was a great flick! Johnny Depp is a very good actor and I cant imagine living years in the "undercover" manner the real guy did, he must have been paranoid as hell Mr Alan, the Godfather I and II must be in everyone's top 10 of all time and, as you alluded to, should be considered one in the same...... no matter how many times I have seen them, when they come on in a marathon on TV I watch them back to back everytime... I see that Shawshank is still a predominate top 3 of all, but I cant believe more dont have Scarface in the top three... On a totally unrelated note, If I ever have a boy, I will name him "Hagan" after my fav character in the Godfather movies or "Atticus" from my favorite book...... If it should be a girl, it will be "Scout" also from said book/movie! EPC, I know you like "Mockingbird!!!" in a total trivial thought, Robert Duvall is involved in both movies.....his first movie role was as "Boo Radley" in "To Kill a Mockingbird" and years later as "Tom Hagan" in "The Godfather I and II" atl

black & white... How about Murnau's Nosferatu? And 'Schindler's List' comes to mind... completely in b&w... except for one little thing: the red coat of a cute little girl quietly walking through all the chaos in the Ghetto in search of her parents... Later in the film you suddenly see parts of a red coat in a mass grave... That one hit me hard...
