Mr Alan
Best black and white film (and many believe greatest film ever made) is Citizen Kane. I would rank it in my top 5.

Agree Mr Alan, a truly excellent Movie, not a fan of Nosferatu. As for a couple of more favourites, Psycho & Orson Wells excellent Touch of Evil!

This was in someone's top 3, maybe EPC???

But, I was flipping channels and "Saving Private Ryan" was just starting and no matter how many times I have seen it, that opening scene blows me away......

I will go back at the end and see if I tear up again when the old man salutes Tom Hanks characters grave...I aint gonna lie, that scene usually gets me

Regarding a top 3 of mine..

"Pulp Fiction" is on now and I had to give Roger Avery his props!!!!!

QT gets the credit for that movie but both accepted the "Best Screenplay" together and you never hear of Roger Avery!

He wrote a movie solo afterwards "Killing Zoe" about a bank heist on "Bastille Day" in Paris....definitly worth watching but a 7 on my judging scale..

anyway, what most dont know is that Roger wrote the Bruce Willis boxer third of the movie and QT meshed it in very well with his other two thirds....

The "He wore this watch up his ass........" scene is simply brilliant!

I mean you gotta have a wonderful and sick mind to come up with the pawn shop and gimp portion...that was classic and Avery deserves props....

and as a matter of useless trivia, the red head lady comedian Kathy Griffin was f***ing QT at the time and was placed, by him, in that minor role of the girl that tells "Butch" that he was hit by that maniac (Marcellace Wallace) " and she makes jokes to this day that she was f***ing QT back then.....

IMO, Samuel L. Jackson was robbed of the "Best Supporting Actor" Oscar that year by Martin Landau in "Ed Wood!"

I am still plotting my revenge on the old bastard for that

all good in their own ways, an "no country" was simply brilliant!!!! nuff said on that matter, great film from very start to finish!!! good call Tezza

Borat, is funny as shit, but wouldnt break into my top 3 and the shining, while I enjoyed it, is stiill down on the 25 or 30 level....even with the writing it was just "good" in my opinion....

thanks for sharing!

Ya'll better Get off your butts and see it !

Wicked bad Nazi interrogation dialog script... black comedy suspenseful with great character builds and location scenes... and yes storyline is Q twisted... the Nazi SS detective won a best actor award in Cannes for it ! so very real !

....and that why we fight for freedom ! strength and power to the Iraq/Afghan freedom fighters/soldiers forever !

Inglorious Bastards (2009) Trailer

SG,

glad you posted a nice review...my dad called me to see if I wanted to see it with him today....but me and my niece and her BF were wakeboarding at the lake and I told him we could go on Sunday!

(*edit in* first time wakeboarding in like 8 years and today feel like I was thrown out of a car going about 40 lol!)

I will give my personal review after seeing it, but am excited to see if QT is "back in the game!"

I didnt catch Inglorious yet, but is next on my list...3 other great reviews today...cant wait!

But there is a movie on TV now that is an adaptation of a old John Grisham book...

"A Time To Kill"

I loved it when I read it and have always felt it was one of the better adaptations of Grisham's books, and have seen it two or three times over the past decade.....

But man it has a serious star-studded cast and Sam L. Jackson is as great as usual.....

mrs atl is watching it with me and is all into it, telling me to turn off the computer but I wanted to post during the commercial....

I just find it interesting to try and explain to an uber, peace, loving buddhist the social meaning behind the storyline, as she in oblivious to most things that occured in the segregated south.....and it seems to intrigue her...

anyway, it's a pretty good flick to catch again!

Just thought I would share, and it will require much more commentary from you, if you watch it with a Thai chick

2046 - I really like the atmosphere of this Wong Kar-Wai movie. (Having both Faye Wong and Zhang Ziyi is a bonus too).

A Bridge to Far. Classic WW2 movie. Was Michale Caine miss cast as Brigadier John Ormsby Evelyn Vandeleur? I think he might have been.

But not in The Italian Job - "You were only supposed to blow the bloody doors off" One of the best lines ever. (and not the bloody remake, leave it out)

Runners up.

Master and Commander – A great adaptation of Patrick O’Brian’s books. I was worried when I saw Russel Crowe would play Jack Aubry, but he was good.

House of Flying Daggers – Some of the best cinematography.

Lust Caution - One of Ang Lee’s less well known films, Quite erotic. The first time I saw it it was a censored pirate copy from the PRC, the uncut version is a must. Tang Wei is worth watching. The poor girl was ostracised in the PRC afterwards.

The biggest mystery in Chinese cinema is how Tony Leung gets all these hot women.
