Just joined the forums and dig the science being dropped...Just wondering where to go around Sukhimvit to not be assaulted by frickin' pinball techno. crap. I dig pretty obscure u.g. rock but any BG joints that feature decent rock (recorded, jukebox, live)--Stones, GnRs, blues would be cool. If not, any non-BG joints that are decent. I thought I saw a Bluesy band playing in a place near Soi Cowboy.
Thanks in advance for any sage advice...

Saxaphone - just off Victory Monument Sky train station probably suit you [ take front, right hand exit, and 50 yards down small lane on the right, opposite where there is a large clearing and construction underway] - but not really a pick up joint, probably pay to find a girl at soi 7 or somewhere and take her with you ....

that's what i like about the GO-Go's and bars on Phuket.
nothing but loud rock music.
but sometimes not so goood.
the beer bars are mostly joined to each other and different sound systems.
in your left ear Thin Lizzy are assaulting your ear,on the right,Led Zeppelin and right between the eyes is R.E.M.

to see live performance, have a look at the metal zone, it wont be exactly the "rock" youre looking for, but its a unique place and once in a while worth to visit.

No relevance to the thread as such, but in the compartment for goooooood music, I just bought the concert DVD ( MAy 2002) with BAD COMPANY.
( Paul Rogers and Simon Kirk from "FREE"), a decent lead guitar player and a veeery good base player. Man, does it rock!
I have retaken the DVD machine and the 30 Tv screen from my son and EMINEM with this one.
Energy, raspy voice, great tunes, great rythms and great memories from the future with this one. It fires me up, Hey, Lets Do IT Again!
By the way, any bars in BKK with rock Videos/ DVD's ?
It gets me going.

Bad Company......memories.
were a perfect band in their hey day.
first band signed to Swansong label,which was created by Led Zeppelin.
Mick Ralphs was a very good lead guitar player.
pity he left Mott The Hoople just as they got popular.

You might try Sukhumvit Cafe, it's way up in the low 100s, near but before the intersection of BangNa-Trat road. Have to take a cab to get there. It's a cavernous place filled with Thais. Only times I've been there I've been the only farang. It's not Western metal, but a lot of Thai style rock and roll, whiskey and beer. Interesting for at least once, but take an interpreter if you don't speak halfways decent Thai. I'd also recommend to be discreet in your relationships while in there.

Nokna, quite a few of the songs they play in the concert are tributed to Mick Ralphs , or alternatively he and Paul Rogers wrote them together.

another spot worth trying is "gecko" on soi ekkamai, deep inside (lol) about fifteen minutes car ride, alot of openair bars and restaurants, many of them live music, weekends international rock and pop, during the week thai rock and thai pop.
