This is an offshoot of the Rosemary's Bar thread, now presented as a serious proposal if still in a somewhat primitive form.
Yes, there is a group of people beginning to gel who have a sincere interest in joining in to form a company and acquire a bar. Enough so that it's now worthwhile to begin polling people on an individual basis.
I understand that people might be reluctant to discuss financials in public, so I would request than all responses be directed to me by PM. All replies will be held in absolute confidence by me. Data gathered will be aggregated to "take the pulse" of potential participants.
Please feel free to ask for any clarifications of the questions asked, but send your replies to me by PM only. No time limit but hopefully all interested persons can reply within a few days to a week. Please.
Also keep batting around ideas in the 'Rosemary's Bar' thread.
The questions:
1) At what monetary figure do you wish to participate? (Specify baht or US dollars, please.)
2) What is your expected return on a financial basis? Give me a percentage per year.
3) Other than drinking at a discount, a T-shirt, pride of ownership and other intangibles, what do you expect to be the other rewards of participation?
4) Is your cash contribution ready on an immediate basis?
5) Are you living in Thailand permanently and full-time? If not, where do you live and how often do you visit Thailand?
6) Do you have any special skills which might be useful in operating the venue, marketing it, or otherwise providing set-up or operations services? (Chicken inspector is not a valid response, boys!)
7) If you are resident in Thailand, would you be willing to participate in an "oversight" commitee, monitoring the management of the bar and reporting to the ownership group as a whole? (Would require a few multi-hour SOBER sessions per month.)
8) Would you be willing to put part of your money up front to help support pre-acquisition activities? (Think research and development, investigation of leases, other costs)? Would you be more willing to do so if funding the ground work allowed for a slightly discounted share price?
That should do for now. Again, all replies will be held confidential and while they are not binding in anyway I hope you will give the questions all due consideration. The more considered and accurate the replies the sooner a business plan can be put together.

i've seen ideas where money was involved go bad on various other forums, like fights afterwards when things don't work out. how would we go about things to prevent such a thing?
how does BK feel about all this and it all being discussed on "his" forum?

Last question first: The Rosemary's bar thread was all in fun, but this, I knew, was crossing a line of sorts. So I asked him and got his okay to continue using the board for this initiative, at least for now.

How to prevent the fight...? Best way is to be honest, transparent, and diligent. Prevent the failure and you prevent the fight. That's idealistic, so I'll back it up by saying that everybody should understand the risks going in, not risk more than they can afford to lose and not start with wild ideas of insane profit. There's no whining if this flames out, the goal is to work colelctively and intelligently to have the best chance of success.
Beyond that, I think the board already filters out the weak and the whiny. Most folks here have the maturity to weigh the risks and I don't see a schism forming if the thing flames out.

I sent VJ a message stating that my interest would be lots of beautiful girls. This was the answer I got:
The one thing is... look but don't touch will probably be the rules. We'd ask that member/investors not barfine out of their own bar. Nothing could undercut the girls morale more than thinking they work in a brothel and are sex-slaves of 100 owners. The profit comes from the girls working the non-member punters. If every girl is sitting on a VIP lap, then there goes the whole profit cycle- drink, LD, drink, barfine.
I hadn't thought about that but it's true of course. So before any of you guys start thinking this is a good way of getting cheap pussy then think again!
