Hey guys, I could use a little help here. I've just come across an old thread in the gogo bar section started by brother ABC called What's the Most You've Ever Spent in a GoGo Bar that may have solved the age old question about sponsoring a BG. In the thread he told about himself and two other friends buying out three BG's contracts. Here's what he said about the process: "We bought three bar females contracts out. This means that we paid, I think 15,000 baht per female. This allowed us never to pay another bar fine on this female again. And, according to the mamasan, the females were able to go to work anytime that they wanted, as well as go work at any other club" Can any of the brothers expand on this any further because I'm not quite sure if I'm fully understanding this concept and it's exact meaning, but if I am interpreting this correctly then brother ABC may have accidently discovered a loop hole that could help a lot of the brothers out with the whole sponsorship issue. I will try my best to explain my interpretation of his discovery as best as I can in as easy a way to understand as possible. Once I'm done then those in the know can take over and correct any mistakes I've made in my interpretation. Here goes: There are two ways to interpret the first part of his comment about never having to pay the bar fine on those particular females again. Either he's saying that only he and his friends never have to pay the bar fine for those particular ladies again or he's saying that now no one has to pay the bar fine for those particular ladies again because he bought out their contracts. This is the part that has me confused. If he means him and his friends only then that's great for them, but if he means everyone then DAMN! WE GOT THEM NOW! The next part of his comment about the ladies being able to come to work anytime they want to means they can no longer be penalized for coming to work late or not at all. Okay, now we come to my own interpretation of what this could mean and how it would work toward solving the sponsorship issue. Here goes: Instead of sponsoring a BG in order to get her out of the bar because you don't want her going with other guys you buy out her contract for 15 or 20k baht. By buying out her contract she never has to meet another bar fine quota in order to receive her full salary from the bar, only the drink quota and how hard can that be. By buying out her contract she never has to worry about being fined for being late or missing work again. By buying out her contract she can still work and receive her full salary without having to go with customers, she gets to still spend time with the other BG's so she won't be home alone all the time getting bored and thinking up ways to put some excitement back into her life. Best of all she'll still be able to earn her own money so that instead of sponsoring her any money you send to her will be something extra to help out. Okay guys, how'd I do in my interpretation of brother ABC's discovery. Am I way off the mark or have we just struck gold here. All experts on the subject please feel free to respond, although if I'm right about this then I do believe that I may have just been placed on the hit list of a lot of bar owners . Let the great debate begin. Peace

Frankly, such a proposition is rather silly. Assuming that the barfine would be 500 baht, 15,000 baht = 30 barfines. The mamasan is betting that the guy is going to be bored with the girl before the equivalent of a month of dates. The girl may disappear; what recourse is there? ABC may have enough clout in Thailand to enforce his will against a bar, but that's problematical. Most of the brothers on this forum don't and never will. The bar will be happy to take your money, but what's in it for you? A temporary sense that you have bought and paid for the girl? Come on. It's a variation of the bar making you pay for the girl to quit working, which is a crock. They don't own the girl, she can quit anytime she wants, and you owe them nothing. All I see here is 15,000 baht changing hands and the bar laughing at you behind your back. The girl too most likely. You want to talk contracts, study law, or play bridge, or hire a hit man. There's no place for such talk in the bar game.

CJ is correct ,but I will add some of the bars will split the money with the bar girl involved as an incentive for her to get you to pay the money ,after a while she will disappear only to return to the bar or another one to work. Fast easy money for all!!!!!!!!! apart from you that is.

Sup' Gentlemen: This is what we were told!! And keep in mind that we were Newbies at the tiime!! When we first started going to BKK, we spent more of our time at the Go Go bars in Nana Plaza. After a couple visits a group of us had found that "special" female so to speak. The manager at the bar told us that if we wanted, we could buy the females contract. What does buying a contact mean?? The manager explained that three things would happen once the contract had been paid. 1. The female was free to change establishments any time without penality. 2. Whenever we visite the bar in the future, we would never have to pay a bar fine for that female again. 3. The female could come into work anytime and was not subject to having to work any specific amount of days or any bar quotas!! Now, looking back, we were a bunch of fools!! ÝAnd everyone knows that a fool is soon parted of his/her's money!! If we had thought more carefully about what they were actually talking about, then we would've seen some discrepencies in their statments. I mean, if the female was free to go elsewhere, then once she moved we would have to pay a bar fine all over again. So, that does not make any sense. I do not think that th females from the Go Go bars are slaves and can not leave or change places. Because I've seen many females working at different places and not all of them could've have their contracts paid for so that could change places. And, if the female did not have to work or have any quotas, then how is the bar going to make money on her and still pay her normal salary?? Those were good times and we all sit back and laugh about it now over beers!! So, we live and learn and "Roll" with it!!

cmore, I will elaborate on the following, as well as your post, later, but I had to respond. For now let me say that this latest post and others from you prompt me to gently suggest the following; There is a difference between: A) accepting your favorite BG's profession, being non-judgmental and non - possessive and:B) Trying to allow 2 mutually exclusive situations to exsist at once. ÝPut it simply; If she's your girlfriend she's got no business working in the bar nor should she want to. ÝAnd the idea that a BG will still live the same lifestyle, in the same enviroment, with the same friends but minus the sex with strangers...well, I try hard not to be amused at your truly fine regard for the ladies- to have such a high opinion of people is a fine thing, and I too generally think very highly of the BGs, but... Hey guys, looks like I opened a hornets nest here. I understand perfectly well what you're saying, but what I'm talking about is whether it's at all feasible to come up with an agreement with the bar to pay a one time lump sum bar fine to buy out a BG's obligation to meet the bar fine quota in order to receive her full salary. I mean doesn't the same thing kind of already exist at some of the gentlemans clubs and eden club in the form of a VIP membership where by paying a larger one time fee you get more for your money then you would paying on an individual basis? I'm not suggesting trying to buy a BG away from a bar because most of the brothers may not be aware of this but I happen to be a black man and I tend to frown on the idea of buying a fellow human being. I'm only asking what if that's all. Yes 15K baht is only 30 bar fines but what if we're talking about some one who normally only gets bar fined once a week. Those 30 bar fines would take over 6 months to make. And what about the low tourist season when things are really slow and that one bar fine a week turns into one a month. This is only meant to be considered as a what if and I will respect all opinions on the subject. Speaking of opinions Capt. Falang brings up a very good point, but one that I have to interpret as a very good thing instead of a bad thing. If a guy were to buy out a BG's bar fine obligation (even if it's not on a permanent basis) for 15K and she ends up splitting the money with the bar and disappearing then she's playing him for a fool and he's out 15K. Now what if he starts sponsoring her at 15K each month and a year goes by before he finally finds out she's been playing him for a fool. I may be wrong but that one time loss of 15K seems like the better investment to me. Just one man's opinion. Peace

cmore my good man, I'm sorry you didn't respond to my observation. I still say (as someone who spent a fair amount of time "on either side of the bar"), that such a situation is either a rip-off or else- essentially a non-starter for all concerned; employer, BG, sponsor.

cmore, Just an observation from my TG. I suppose all bars have slightly different policies. The go-go bar she worked at had this exit fee strategy: If a girl wanted to stop working at the bar, and be able to come back later, he would charge them an exit fee. It took one of two forms: 1) If a farang was fronting the money, then he charged 6000 baht, and gave 2000 back to the girl (unbeknownst to the farang). Bar makes money, girl makes money. 2) If the girl is fronting the money, he charges 4000 baht. My TG paid him 4000 baht, and was told by the owner that she could still free lance there, if she needed more money. I talked to her about this before she paid him, because she wasn't obligated to pay him anything. But she was still not trusting that I wouldn't dump her in a few months (this had happened to her before), so she paid him as "insurance." She could have gone to work anywhere else, but she liked that bar and I guess it felt homey in a way to her (like a small Isaan neighborhood). The owner considered her one of his best girls (no drinking, smoking, gambling), a high earner, and an example for the other girls to follow. So he had a vested interest in keeping her around to pad his pockets. He requested her not to tell the other girls about the arrangement, because he wanted his girls there on a regular basis, not haphazardly -- he didn't want a freelancer bar, he wanted a regular go-go bar where the girls were given incentive for keeping a regular schedule. His list of rules (and "fines for screw ups" ) was reasonable, given the nature of the trade. I know this doesn't directly answer your question, but it gives you a real example of some exit rules. I've never had a problem with bar fines, I don't consider it buying someone, because the girls all get a cut of the bar fine (she got 100 of the 400 baht bar fine). In fact, the girls get a cut of everything you buy while at the bar, including drinks. So they are incentivized to part you with as much of your cash before leaving with you, including your paying the bar fine. To them, the fine is just another way to make money, and a way for the owner to make extra money to cover his overhead (I've always considered the term "bar fine" a bit of a misnomer, because from our perspective, those words mean more than what is really happening). Anyway, she never did go back to free lance there, and is working hard to finish school (an opportunity she never had when she was younger). Best to you, brother cmore -- I leave for BKK in a week, and am counting the hours. - Balls

I'd like to know what bar(s) at NEP are pulling such bullshit. The girls have no 'contract' to buy; they are not indentured servants, they are not chattel, and Rama V abolished slavery a century ago. These are pure and simple CON GAMES that are being perpetrated on booze-soaked farang. cmore, ABC accurately characterized his own experience, and that was the experience on which you based your premise. It seems the answer to your question is NO it is not 'feasible' and I for one would not patronize a bar that pulls such pure bullshit on its customers. The bars like to view the girls as proprietary assets but, in fact the girls do simply piss off, go upcountry, fall in love, change bars, get married and quit working and there isn't a damned thing that the bar can do about it. Other than cheat the girl out of her last month's pay. Some bars TRY to charge an unwitting ignorant farang a lump sum to 'allow' the girl to quit working. But this is sheer intimidation and has no basis in custom or law, it is NOT the bar's place to charge a dowry. ÝWhen the bar tried to pull that bullshit on me 15 years ago my girl and I told them to f_ck off. "Don't be stupid, Be a Smarty Come and Join The No-Pay Party!"
