WARNING ABOUT DOLLHOUSE A GO GO IN SOI COWBOY
Last night I had a friend visiting from out of town who wanted to get a small taste of Bangkok, so I took him to SC. I'm not a regular but will visit once or twice a month. Tonight I chose to take him to the Dollhouse.
Big mistake. I think there is new management at the Dollhouse since I last visited a month or so ago. The girls are almost all different, the music has changed, and so have the uniforms. That, by itself, wasn't the problem.
The problem came when my friend and I were going to go, as we were short on time. My friend paid 1000 baht for the 205 baht tab, and the server brought back just 285 baht. She tried to pass off that he only gave her a 500 baht bill. I witnessed him give her 1000. We had also just been to the ATM and he only had 1000's on him. It was a straight forward rip off.
There was no farang manager present, only a mamasan. I spoke with her in Thai while my friend went around to all the tables and warned everyone to watch their drinking tab. The mamasan stood by her girls. I will see if I can contact a farang manager separately, but all we could do at the time was leave.
I had been to Dollhouse many times and never had a problem before. I am sure many forum readers feel the same way and think I'm full of it. But for those who haven't been there in a while, BE WARNED--RIPOFFS ARE NOW OCCURRING AT THE DOLLHOUSE.
If you are the manager and read this, send me a PM. If you pay us back, I'll be happy to inform everyone that you fixed the problem and continue to run a professional establishment.
Such a waste, as this small rip off will cause you to lose my business that is easily worth more than the 500 baht the bargirls ripped off. I hope others take heed and avoid this place. Lots of great alternatives available on SC.

This exact thing happened to me at a bar in Pattaya which I prefer not to name.
Just be warned to always look the waitress in the eye as you hand her the bill and say "1000Baht... OK ?"
The manager in P insisted that his talley at the end of the day would reveal who was correct. But I said how do you know the girls won't cover for each other to save face and save their job ? He had no reply. He did however grudgingly give me my 500B short change back.
With all of the other risks of being and/or living in Bangkok, this is not too much to worry about.

Nothing recent about Dollhouse. No real harm in starting a new thread as a result. If you look under the title, you can see I include the phrase "New Management? New Rip Off?", which should be enough to give you an idea of what its about. If not, then anyone who clicks on the thread will see that at the very top, in BIG BOLD LETTERS, I give the warning.
As you said "surely there must already be a thread about Dollhouse", are you saying that you are aware of previous scams by Dollhouse? Or just in general?

Don't sweat the small stuff mrniceguy.
If everyone here posted a warning about a rip-off that happened to him, there would be no more venues to go to. Just because it happened at Dollshouse, doesnt mean there is a change of policy or it's a result of management changes.
It happens because an unscrupulous hooker saw a split second opportunity and took advantage of it. It can - and does - happen everywhere all the time - bars, gogos, on the streets, in taxis, in hotels. It's as likely to happen in a 5 star hotel as it is in a SC gogo bar.
And it happens to Thais as well as to farang.
There's no answer to it. It's part of participating in a developing economy. There is only one way to minimise the risk of it happening and that is to be ever-diligent and suspicious and develop strategies accordingly, such as the 'This is a 1000 baht note, right?" tip given above.
We all get caught out. We all let our guard slip sometimes.
Be angry, be indignant and post your rant here. But generally all I'd say is accept it as a small (albeit annoying) part of life in LOS.

Good point scobie. Along those lines, I was in a NEP gogo bar the other night, talking with the manager (whom I know), who was sitting next to me. I'd just paid the checkbin for the b/f and drinks, and when the change came back, I looked at it quickly and stuffed it into my pocket. The manager noticed this and said to me "always count your change!" Even in his bar, sitting next to him, he is telling me to do this, so no one is immune to the ripoff.

Problems could arise anywhere when you pay small check bin with big note, so the TG doesn't appear to lose face by you implying she may rip you off, just say, "Sorry, only have 1000 note"
That way you have showed her you know it was a 1000, and she will not know you are using a suttle way of pointing out that you do not want her short changing you.

I've lived in the LOS for over a year now. I agree that sometimes the occasional bad service is part of living here. Worse things can happen than to get ripped off 500 baht, and I'm not sweating it. I'm simply warning other forum members of this development, as I had previously not had problems in the Dollhouse. In addition to warning other members, I hope the Dollhouse learns from this too: you can't rip off customers and expect business to keep up. If fellow forum members heed my warning, they're going to wish they acted on the 500 baht rip-off.
Many bars are owned and managed by fellow farang, and if you bring it to their attention they will usually refund your money on the spot, no questions asked. They know that when word gets out that people are getting ripped off in their place, they lose business. Unfortunately, the mamasan was in charge that night.
Unlike cabs, bars almost always have change. I would never step into a cab without small bills in my pocket. Unless its at the very beginning of a shift, a taxi driver will have change for 100 baht bill but almost never for a 500 or 1000.

Apart from the good earlier posts that warn us to be careful of the posibility that we could be ripped off in bars, perhaps there might be the odd occasion when it (the alleged rip-off) was just a genuine mistake by the waitress.
So perhaps, if you find yourself in a sim'lar situation, try to solve the issue by camly (careful not to let anybody loose face) discussin' the situation with those involved rather than tellin' the other imbibers that they should be careful of their bar tabs in that establishment. Which might exascerbate things!
